Altered Spoons

January 9, 2008 · 15 Comments

Spoons8Jan08 Still playing with cutlery, thank you SO much Charlotte Kemsley; moving from mostly forks to spoons at the moment.

Two soup spoons were flattened by my husband. The center teaspoon was pounded just a bit to give a flatter spot for the image of the three little boys.

Tenderness8Jan08

On the back of the spoon I added the words “the beating of his heart”. The charms were removed from a bracelet from the early 1900’s. The names of Edwin 3-30-08, Carl 10-18-12, and Meacham 9-1-15 are engraved on the bottoms of the shoes. I had the perfect image of three boys to add to the spoon along with the blue crystal heart.

The image of the Indian girl holding her papoose is just so precious, she’s a real beauty.

Deb of Lavender Rose Ramblings (don’t you love that name, two of my favorite flowers!) shared a fabulous resource with me. The New York Public Library Digital Gallery provides access to over 550,000 amazing images and more.

If you’ve not checked it out before, it is well worth the visit.

“A mother’s arms are made of tenderness and children sleep soundly in them” ~Victor Hugo

Oh, I really like what you did with these altered spoons, Patty. Do you have a display place for them? How will you display them?
    Hugs,
    Deb

And so you are on to spoons! And they are fabulous! Who knew silverware could be so much fun? Love the one with the Indian girl and papoose, and the Victor Hugo quote to go with it :)

I’d love to see how you display them too. What a wondrous sight it will be with all of them together.

Thanks so much for coming to visit me and for your lovely, sweet comments! I’ll be back :)

Hi again, new to seeing your blog, I got it from Jeri’s blog. I did spoons like this (minus the dangles) for Christmas ornaments. I couldn’t get holes in them, no matter how hard I tried! Yours are fab.

Had time tonight to go back and look at your spoons again in my depth than the first time. Just love the way you have done the first two spoons with the photos in them, oh my, so nice. What a grand idea. I have my baby spoon, which is now 75 yrs old and i am thinking it might be fun to do something with it along these lines using a photo. Will show it to you sometime. Keep having fun and sharing the joy! Lennie

These are so good Patty – I love the indian one – I thought it was a wooden spoon but see the handle looks silver.
