Here is a page I completed in my altered Garden/Nature book.

I enjoy having more than one altered book in the works.

The background is floral tissue paper with a one ply rice paper napkin cut and glued in place.

I find that glue stick (the pink is my fav) works beautifully to adhere it to the book page; it melts into the surface letting some of the words show thru.

The bee in the center is from a plant stake. I broke off the stick and added the charm bits and hung them on waxed linen underneath the piece.

Some years ago I saw a pretty stitched sampler in a public building. I cannot recall what they used in the center of the stitchery, but all around the edges were ‘bee’ affirmations.

That was my inspiration for this page.
I enjoyed looking up the word “bee” in different languages too and would Love to hear someone pronounce the last one in Polish.

This is going to be one great altered book/nature journal. I think this one is my newest “favorite” and how I love those “bee affirmations”. And I think I just went around the world with the word for bee! This was a great way to begin my morning. Thanks Patty!

This is beautiful! Love the heavy textural/three-dimensional aspect of it. And the “bee” writing around the edges is so creative and fun!

    Hi ~*~Patty!

This is the “bee’s knees”, you are going to bee a regular on “Bee Spotting” for sure. I love what you have done here. I have bee affirmations everywhere, imagine that.

I see Irena, my polish friend, today and will have her pronounce it for me and then phonetically spell it for you!

In the mean time, “bee” in czech is včelička!

    gotta fly! Karen

It’s been awhile since I studied Polish, but I believe it is pronounced “psh-chowa”.

The “ow” would sound like the long O and not like “ow, I hurt myself”. The “l” is actually a “ł” which is the equivalent of the English “w”. (And the Polish “w” is like the English “v”. ;) ) And there are two types of “sh” and “cz” sounds in Polish; hard and soft. The sz/cz are the hard sounds, so when you make them, your tongue has to be touching the roof of your mouth.

It’s really a LOT easier to pronounce than I’ve just made it seem!!!

Back with my phonetics and I have it just like “crisfdez” above. When my friend was saying it, almost sounded like she said “push stroller” with a hard accent and blending the consonants and no real “l” sound. That pronunciation would be a big bee, a small bee sounds like “pish-stoka” , again with the long O sound. the real focus seemed to be on the “sh” sound as if you were “shushing” someone to be quiet.
