Years ago, on my twenty-first birthday, my Mutti (Mom) painted these wooden clothespins for me…..Edelweiss…..Gentian…..and pink Alpenrose all a symbol of our Bavarian roots.  For a long time I would just admire them, never using them to actually hang clothes on the line or anything.  Finally, I thought I did want to at least use them indoors as clips on bags in the kitchen and such, they are woven into our daily lives and are such treasures.    She also painted the fruit basket, but that does not date back as far as the clothespins.

Many birthdays have come and gone, each one a gift!  Mark Twain always had good advice:

Lovely Maud on this 1906 postcard, back when it cost just a penny to mail, was sent to Miss Bertha Jordan in Haverhill, Mass.  If only the people back then knew how much we don’t like it when they write on the FRONT of the postcard!
