Oatlands and the Traveling Tea Cup…

Oatlands Plantation (a National Trust Historic Site and a National Historic Landmark) is a favorite spot of mine that I try and visit as often as possible

Oatlands view from house

yesterday was a perfectly lovely 68 degree (20 celsius) blue sky day…

Oatlands Gazebo view of ice house

I did not want to miss the chance to get out and enjoy a bit of autumn sunshine even though our Virginia trees seem a bit slow in changing colors so far this year…

1810 Oatlands Greenhouse

the 1810 greenhouse is in the process of being restored and will soon be filled with select plants until next spring…

Oatlands School group lunches

a class of school children was visiting with a large number of them dressed in colonial outfits with their lunches waiting for them on picnic tables outside the walled gardens

Oatlands Blooms and Shadow

these lovely blooms will be resting soon with much cooler temperatures and frost on the way…

Oatlands Vegie and Herb Garden

even though it was the middle of the day and quite sunny I managed to snap a good number of photos…

SLO Tea

thought I’d take you traveling for tea today since my thoughts seem to keep going back to our recent getaway…

SLO stands for San Luis Obispo

I did a Silent Sunday post that showed a few photos of this neat town here

we had a lay over in San Francisco and boarded a small 30 seat propeller plane to continue our journey a little further down the California coast…

there was plenty of time on our stopover to get a loaf of our favorite Boudin’s sour dough bread…

landing at San Luis Obispo airport helped trim about four hours of driving time which was most welcome after traveling the skies all day from Virginia…

we found their one baggage claim carousel a pleasant surprise…

SLO was cited as one of this country’s happiest places by the Oprah Winfrey Show…

home of Cal Poly

we began and ended our California getaway there…

a fun little college town with nice shops and a creek running through it…

we stumbled quite by chance on gum alley…

very interesting…

we did a walk by and kept our distance with no urge to actually walk down the alley…

if I haven’t grossed you out too much let’s keep walking and visit Kreuzberg’s Coffeehouse and Books

I had a nice refreshing Kombucha and Mr Magpie had a cappucino

Loved the lamps hung upside down from the ceiling and the perfect coffee house atmosphere…

We write our epitaphs on walls with gum,
And though it may be meaningless to some,
We have a symbol of our gummy youth,
Whose walls may not tell some glorious truth,
But eloquently speak of better times,
Of cruising, shopping sprees, and nursery rhymes.
If gum is all you see upon our wall,
Your mind is closed, your spirit shrunk and small,
Though memories of youth may never last,
Gum Alley is our present to our past.” ~”M”, Arroyo Grande

well alrighty then…

wishing you all a very Happy T Tuesday

I am still finding reentry back into “real” life pretty challenging on several fronts…sigh :)

Pacific Sea Star Tea

looking back on our trip to California in October of 2010

this post has been in DRAFT for far too long now…

WHERE in the world has a year gone…

I still remember how entertained we were walking on Goat Rock Beach on the lookout for treasure…

what is it about wet shells and rocks that wink at you in the sand and whisper “take me home with you”

there was sea glass too if you were very patient…

my great discovery was a brilliant Ochre Sea Star still too freshly gone to take home…

it looked like a Fabergé jewel incrusted ornament shimmering in the sunlight…

and complimented the embroidery on my tunic nicely…

we were warned by friendly locals to never turn our backs on the ocean…

they have signs warning about deadly Sleeper Waves…

a local lady who shared some sea glass with me had some stories to tell about those…

it was a short drive back to the sanctuary of Jenner where we were staying…

a bite to eat and some tea on the Russian River here…

we are excited about our upcoming return visit to a different part of California end of this month to attend our nephew’s wedding…

it was our sweet niece’s wedding that took us to the west coast last year around this time…

here’s wishing you a very happy T Tuesday

… be sure and visit Kimmie

you never know where the T Tuesday bloggers will take you…

Days decrease…

Dawn’s October Journal Journey challenge theme is “Nature & Autumn”…

she also suggested using a “stencil” somewhere on our pages…

I chose these already paint scraped pages in my “How it Works” Encyclopedia Volume 13 to play with…

happy to finally find a use for the man stencil I’ve had since forever and never ever used
I also had one of my Citra Solv tissue paper transfers on hand which I really liked for my right hand page…

some stamping with my new juicy VersaFine ink pad
with a little journaling on the left page…
a piece of open patterned paper used as a stencil helped unify the pages…
