Damaged in a Sea of Tears

The WS challenge this week is Openings.  I’ve been wanting to play with a children’s board book for awhile now.  I got busy slicing openings into six of the pages.  Instead of sanding the pages, I used gesso to coat them, adding Lumiere and Goauche paints.  For added texture, I taped a piece of double sided sticky tape down, covering it with a piece of netting from a bag of lemons (the same netting in the window), covering that with pattern tissue paper and adding layers of paint and gesso again and again.

The frill at the bottom is part of an ornament that caught my eye in December.  I cut a piece of it and glued it with gel medium between the pages.  The stamps I used are the Stamper’s Anonymous honeycomb stamp along with the “Damaged in a Sea of Tears” stamp.  Not sure what company that one is from, it just gives the stamp title and number, 2004 Tamarind, NB.

As with most projects where you use gold paints/metallics, it can be tricky to capture the shimmer in photos.

Here is a quote from my tears quote collection:

“Tears are the safety valve of the heart when too much pressure is laid on it.” ~Albert Smith
