The Three Muses challenge theme this week is “blackbirds” … I am tagging along at the end here, but just had to do something blackbird inspired
Jean of Bluebirds in the Meadow generously shared some wonderful wool and silk roving with me as I have been wanting to dip my toes into wool felting for some time now
her felted flower tutorial is a must see if you haven’t seen it already… thank you Jean!!!
I will show you some of my felted flowers after I put the finishing touches on them … so while I had my wool and felting needle out along with a piece of felted blue wool from an old skirt … I decided to play and this is what came of it … my first attempt
a little 3 x 4.25″ piece … with a childlike feel … done freehand
can’t wait to visit The Three Muses and see all of the blackbird creativity there
*footnote: seeing my birdie on the screen I can “see” he definitely could use an eye 🙂
How delightful, Patty! Hugs, Terri xoxo

Felting is such fun and you seem to have mastered far better than I the intricacies of felting a design. Lovely!

I’ve been thinking about the blackbird… I even searched for an image.. but it didn’t fall in place so I let it be… I played with “mixed media monday” instead today (it will be on my blog tomorrow) LOVE your felting and woolen piece.. awesome!!!

What a delightful excursion into the world of felting! You’re right, he needs a wee tiny bead of an eye, but the piece is exquisite. Did you link it at The Muses? I don’t remember seeing it there.

cool! I was looking at wool felting the other day and thought I’d give it a try (: Someday, someday…
I love your composition. You know, there’s an art movement who looks like what you did here, it’s called naïve art (sounds so much fancier than childlike, lol ; )

Oh I just LOVE it! I wouldn’t say childlike so much as folkart-ish …. I love the flowing green part. It almost looks like your little bird is adrift on the sea in his little nest.

As always, there you are, trying something new and exciting. Your freehand felting is to die for. It may be childlike, but it is simply gorgeous and shows what a true artist you really are.
Glad you had a great getaway, too. I’m late to this 4 and 20 blackbird party, but will see you later today.
