Balance …

something I work at in my life

another spread in my Britannica Junior journal … such wonderful old paper to work with …

here are some of the supplies that went into making my journal pagesalong with some peeled decorated dinner napkin bits … they melt into the pages beautifully when applied with glue stick and create such interesting layers... I pressed the extra thick gesso through a piece of designed brass with my finger … a most valuable tool that is always handy …

this swan princess is an image from the NYPL digital collection … a fantastic free resource

on a recent car trip I jotted “Balance is everything” into my little spiral notebook … one of many thoughts that seem to surface while riding in the car … oftentimes lyrics from a song speak to me or in the silent car with the meditative hum of tires on the road … thoughts and ideas are sparked … I have taken to jotting them down … I tore out the page and glued part of it here in my journal … that was the inspiration for this spread

trying to maintain balance is a steady job … always changing

“There’s no secret to balance.  You just have to feel the waves.” ~Frank Herbert

time to dance and soak up moonbeams again under tonight’s full moon … July’s moon has names like “full thunder moon” … “full buck moon” (thank you Lennie) … “full hay moon” … it is said that during a full moon we are at our highest … naturally accelerated … hmmm

… glad you stopped by today …

  5. Beautifully said and illustrated in these pages, Patty! The color palette you chose also feels like the colors one would feel when you’re living from that sweet spot of “balance”… And giggle, giggle, I’m forever writing down a line from a song I hear while crusin’ in the ‘mobile. Even though you’ve heard the song countless times, some little bit of it will just stand out from the rest. Another giggle moment…your paint brush handles look like mine! Xo, sue

  8. lOve these spreads, Patty. That full moon was so BRIGHT last night it was a little eerie…. I love your thoughts about balance – some days it eludes me but doesn’t necessarily make me “unbalanced” – hmmmmm … oh well won’t go there. Your Swan Princess is such a beauty isn’t she? Stay cool tonight under the moonbeams! hugs

  9. LOL, another one who has a collection of phrases and odd words scribbled down to use. The wierdest has to be ‘Sprouts & ferrets’ – don’t ask!
    Beautiful artwork as always.

  10. Beautiful spread – gorgeous pages, Patty! The full moon was lovely last night, and I’m looking forward for a peek at it tonight. (We’ve got a lot of clouds today, so I hope it’s not obscured!)

Balance – interesting choice of subject. Whenever I think of that word, the next word that comes to mind is “juggling”!!! As a Libra, it seems that I’m always looking for balance in different aspects of my life. Your choice of a swan was inspired – sooooo beautiful. And nature always seems to achieve balance so well. Hugs, Terri xoxo

  12. I had a computer crash, so it took a while to get here today. Lovely, lovely spreads, and I love how you show the supplies you use to get these lovely pages. I am so glad many of the libraries (like NYPL) are opening their archives for us to enjoy. Thanks for the link, too.

I’ll watch for the full moon as I try to balance between an air conditioned room and the hot outdoors. Have a great evening.

  20. Your pages are lovely Patty. Balance in life is a work in progress. I’m grateful when I can experience peace in the messy “work” of finding balance.
I was watching the moon last night. It was so beautiful and bright. And then so beautifully mysterious and wispy as the clouds made a veil of lace across it. I wish my camera took good night pictures. But it doesn’t. I should run down to my work space and try to replicate it. Or at least the idea of it.
