tea by the sea…

Mr Magpie and I just returned from the eastern shore of Maryland after a nice long weekend celebrating my birthday…it is fun having a December birthday…

my Mom made a special effort when I was growing up and never put up any Christmas decorations until after the fifth…she always calls me around the time of day I was born on that snowy day way back when in Munich Germany…so sweet!

we stayed at The Tilghman Island Inn…a favorite sweet getaway spot and had it pretty much to ourselves … it was cozy and wonderful…

we really enjoyed some wonderful meals there…with a champagne brunch on Sunday…the staff are SO nice…we really did not want to leave just like their ad says…one day we’ll have to visit in July (instead of April or December) when all of the boats are pulling in for dinner…sounds very entertaining…

we even had a long distance view of some swans…lots of swans can be found in the island shops too…

we visited the nearby town of Berlin, Maryland…for tea at the tea room formerly known as Tea by the Sea

Berlin’s claim to fame came when Runaway Bride (1999) and Tuck Everlasting (2002) were filmed there…

the town was all decked out and in holiday mode with carriage rides and people in costume…

they were having a special Victorian holiday tea which we enjoyed very much…

with the likes of fairy cakes…sugar plums…scones…soup…savory sandwiches…

and piping hot Darjeeling tea…we did not know that Darjeeling is called “the champagne of tea”…

it certainly is a great time to unplug from the hustle and bustle…

since we were so close we made the drive to nearby Ocean City, Maryland…

off season is quite pleasant…with not many people on the boardwalk…notice no seats on the ferris wheel…

we got to walk along the beach looking out at the chilly Atlantic Ocean…

we enjoyed the slower pace…

thank you so much for your sweet birthday wishes while I was away…I am looking forward to catching up with everyone…be sure and pop by Kimmie’s for other T Tuesday posts

  21. Lovely photos of a lovely place. You know I’ve never been in a “tea room” or “tea house.” I’ve seen them around, but have never gone in one. The Victorian B&B that I got married at served tea in beautiful antique tea sets. I guess that’s close to a “tea room.”

What a wonderful birthday gift you received. Sightseeing, great food, cozy shops, holiday celebrations, walks by the shore, and swans! Adorable tea post and awesome birthday celebration!

I have a rule about December birthday’s and decorations for Christmas, too. Nothing goes up until after the 3rd. :p
