sweet violet tea…

while I am not actually drinking Violet tea the Violets certainly are blooming in our garden just now…

they are popping up everywhere…

I read once that when violets mature they can broadcast their seeds as far as four feet away…

they definitely like to get around…

we have several different kinds…

in years past I tried my hand at making candied violets

it is not hard…

just a bit time consuming…

they make a pretty garnish on pound cake or cupcakes…

some years ago I planted some fragrant violets that I bought at Monticello

those did not last over the years…

not as hardy as the common wild ones it seems…

I remembered that I had an odd violet tea cup in the pie safe…

it is thoughtfully painted on both sides of the cup…

would you like one lump or two?

the rabbits were made by my Mutti…

she was the master of miniature creations…

the arms and legs can be bent…

wishing you all a lovely Tea Tuesday…

be sure and stop by Kimmie’s Art in Red Wagons for more T stops…

***Mr Magpie and I want to thank you for your precious and most kind anniversary wishes…we are enjoying each and every sweet comment***

  1. My favorite flower is the wild pansies. My grandmother had them all around her garden and everytime I see one, I fall all in love with them all over again. She also loved the indoor variety of violets and I too inherited that from her. I have about 4 indoor violet plants – and ONE from her. Indoors they can live a very long time and bloom and prosper…. Love your tea cup. Have a great cloudy rainy Tuesday. Love this weather.

  2. Love the tea cup and the miniature animals in your post today. What a wonderful tribute to your mother. And I see you are using some of the violets made it into the scene, too.

Sorry I missed yesterday’s post. I’ll wish you a belated happy anniversary today. My computer crashed yesterday and I only got it working again this morning.

    are candied violets edible?

i find it curious that violets are so concerned with spreading their …erm… joy around that they can cast it forth four feet.

  15. I adore Violets, the flowers, the color and especially candied violets. Candied violets remind me of something that Marie Antoinette would eat. And that tea cup is just so beautiful! It seems that flowers are the themes for everyone’s tea today. I wish I could smell all the gorgeous flower scents. Thank you for a lovely tea and a late congrats on your anniversary!

  17. I will have to pull out the bunny your mother made for next Tuesday’s tea post, since it will be just before Easter – along with my vintage chocolate pot(we’ll pretend it’s a teapot) and cup adorned with violets. Our wild violets have not sprung yet – maybe by next week in time for the tea post?. Not to copy your post – but to use your inspiration!!! :>)

  20. I love it when the sunshine goes your way, because I get to drool and go “ooh” and “aaaw” over the pictures of your beautiful garden. Really, I promise my mom and I would give an arm and a leg for having such a delightful garden ❤

On a totally unrelated note, my dad is currently on your land for a business trip, yay! (well, "your land" as in the US, he's actually visiting Dallas and Tucson).

Oh, and ever more unrelated… I *am* wearing a helmet for my bike rides 🙂 (it's not the most fashionable thing, but oh well).

  23. The white violets with purple hearts are beautiful!!! I have some wild ‘forest’ violets (the colour is violet too!) in the garden. They are real tiny, and grow just in between(? now what I mean?) concrete slabs… I love those little, brave flowers for blooming in places no other flower would dare!

  24. Who need sugar when the tea is so sweet?!? Ohhhh, Patty! You’ve unknowingly brought back a ton of memories from when I was a child. We would go to the field by my Grandmother’s house and pick tons and tons of violets – bunches so fat, our chubby hands could barely hold them. When we picked as many as we possibly could, I’d present them to my Grandmother (who’s favorite color was blue), and she’d go to her “good” cupboard and choose a small crystal vase to water them. Ohhhhh, Patty! She was always so happy to see those flowers! Thank you for reviving this cherished memory!!! Hugs, Terri xoxoxo

  29. Hi Patty, what a beautiful tea post you have presented today, I’ll take no ‘lumps’ thank you but I love your pretty tea cups. Muttis’ little rabbits are the cutest, sweetest little creations, the whole scene reminds me of Alice in Wonderland, you just need a mad hatter and a massive clock. As for violets, my very favourite flower along with Daphne. They both have the most exquisite perfume. I haven’t done a tea post for a while but hope to be organised next week. Happy Tuesday Tea to you.

  31. Oh Patty, those bunnies your Mutti made….beautiful sigh. Before I read who made them, I immediately thought they had a German look to them. What talent…the size and bulk of the fabric would not be easy to work with….treasures indeed. Love that you featured them with your beautiful violets and those little pussywillows. Sweet post.
