…I am just like me

“I am completely authentic. I don’t pretend to be what I am not. I am what I am, and I accept what I am. I am just like a flower, just like the ocean, just like the sun. I am just like me.”  ~Don Miguel Ruiz

reading that inspiration from Don Miguel Ruiz reminded me of my word of the year AUTHENTIC … on my sidebar …

here we are over half way through the year … I am finding out that it is pretty challenging being completely “authentic” all the time…

* * * * * * * * * * * * *

my art cave gets the morning sun and likes to hold on to the heat into the afternoon on these hot hot days …

even our nights have not been going below the 70’s (20+ celsius) lately…I certainly do NOT treasure the heat 😉

(left card: scrap papers, washi tape, paint, inks “Treasure” rubber stamp… right card: citrasolv background paper with black marker highlights…the card actually says “The HEAT wears me out”…but the ‘wears me out’ was lost in photo taking along with the lower border of the image…sunshine making trouble on our shady back porch too…my fav photo spot usually … images from Alicia’s Altered Bits collage sheet)

I have managed to get up in my art room and play a little with my pink index cards (or skinnies as they are also called) a few times …

(left card: my artwork transferred onto fabric and stitched onto scrap paper decorated with rubber stamping, rubons and fabric bits… right card: torn papers and dictionary page, paint and rubber stamping)

hard to make just one as one seems to lead to two more and so on…

(left card: some Sunday’s we split a salty and sweet caramel chocolate square with our coffee…it comes on a nice brown paper square that I always bring home…the bag is too good to waste too… right card: a piece of torn map from a trip to San Francisco inspired me on this card…we Love SF…a flower stamp seemed perfect too)

I work quickly on these using what I have on hand…

I sure do miss Wednesday Stamper…Wednesday’s are just not the same…

Footnote: this is my 1,400th post

  2. Love your cards Patty and that is a really great quote. I think being authentic all the time is so often hindered by our fear of the reactions we will get from others. Inside, we know who we are and we hope We are welcome out there. pen x

  4. Patty,
I love them all but I love the “Happy Place” one best. I loved it even before I saw the San Francisco part. Just such happy, cheerful colors and patterns! Did I tell you that we lived in SF for the first two years in our marriage? We call it our “two year honeymoon”. Wonderful years! Cool in the Black Hills. Thank God!

  7. Love the quote too, and LOVE using recycled things. I keep a couple of shoe boxes that I’ve filled with bits and bobs of recycled things — pieces of paper, old cards, bits of ribbon. Never know when you’ll be in the midst of creating a piece that calls for a bit of something. Try to stay cool!!! Hugs, Terri xoxo

  8. Authentic art by a genuinely authentic girl!

“Just because” could be your “signature” card Patty – it’s YOU!
It has such depth, colour, dimension and meaning.
Will all of these cards be compiled into a book?

I’m envious of your warm temperatures right now – it’s very frosty here now!!
hugs with frosty arms coming your way!!!

  11. My friend, I scroll through all your posts in a futile attempt to catch up after too many weeks of being MIA. Did you forget I exist? I wouldn’t blame you. Too much stress this summer, too little time and more time on the road than I feel I should spend. I’ve missed your beautiful photographs, lovely teas and most of all, your splendid art! Do stop in and I will do my best. I’m preposted with some fun things and will try to check in from the road!

I can’t imagine wearing a dress like that on a beastly hot day!
Your index card a is wonderful. I’ve done a few of those in the last couple of weeks too …. Inspired by Teri Kahrs. It seems to jumpstart the creative process for me.

I hope things cool off for you soon ….

  18. You are doing a whole lot more than I am these days. I find I keep up with the challenges, but not my blog, my basement organization, or myround robin obligations. My big pillar candle that was in the craft room melted! I should take a photo of it. The heat is way too much here, too. I’m just impressed with all you have made, whether they went quickly or not.
