Stone Angel Sunday 2

last Sunday I shared some images with you from this very beautiful cemetery in Old San Juan also known as La Perla Cemetery…

***please enjoy these FREE Downloads for your personal use only…

they are not intended for collage sheets or to be sold***

there are more than just angels in the cemetery by the sea…

the details in the marble are truly breathtaking…

we did notice some damage with fingers and even arms missing…

I will share a stirring example with you next Sunday…

capturing the complete images was a bit challenging

because so many of the monuments are very close together…

Brightest of Blessings to you today and always…

  1. Extraordinary! We don’t have cemeteries like this in Indiana. Do you have any   about who did the stone carvings? Such fine work, and the photos are exceptional. Thanks for sharing these beautiful moments. Susan

  9. I am still marveling at what they did with marble, can’t grasp the texture the artist was able to create with that medium. I’m wondering how old they are.

  11. these angels are so beautiful and inspiring! Michelangelo said that there is a figure already in the stone, and that the sculptor just has to free it…these sculptors definitely had that gift! thanks for sharing…

  14. Were it not for the way you mark your photos, I would never have guessed all these photos weren’t taken by the same person. I see you and Mr. Magpie share your love for photography. You manage to capture the best images. You have a real flare for photography. I’m incredibly impressed with your camera. I need one of those that doesn’t show shaking hands!

It must have been beautiful there. The weather looks superb with gorgeous skies and views that would go on forever. No smog, no pollution, just gorgeous angels as far as the eye could see.

  15. they are so gorgeous….it takes my breath away…you are so nice to share these, patty….must have been a magical place…you can really see the texture of the marble, maybe the sea salty air is rough on them…how old were they?

  19. Can you even imagine how much those would cost today? I wonder if anyone still does that kind of work? Probably…. in some remote village somewhere…but very unaffordable. These are soooo beautiful. We no longer have access to things that take such time to do…. nowadays we’d want those cut with a laser in a week. We are impatient. I need a nap….

These angels are absolutely amazing. They are even better than all the angels I saw in the Vatican.

  24. I am, of course, a sucker for stone angels. But these by the sea could me no more beautiful. You must make a photo book or calendar of these — they are without question gems, each and every one.

  27. gorgeous. simply breathtaking. i have so many curious questions that i demand you answer! lol! how long did it take to carve one of these? how did these artists learn their trade? original cost in today’s dollars? is this cemetery protected by some form of security? and on and on. such a beautiful post, Patty! I have also been meaning to ask you how you feel/your wishes of having someone pin photos from your blog to their Pinterest account? (FYI: An automatic link is created to the original source and appears in the upper righthand corner of a photo. By clicking on that upper righthand writing, it takes you to the org. source of photo.)

Thanks again for sharing your magnificent trip with us. Looking forward to any new posts from this vacation extraordinaire! xo, Sue
