May Day … May Day

here’s wishing you a Happy Tea on Tuesday this first day of May…

inspired by Mother Nature and Dawn of Girl Unwinding with her beautiful Mandala Monday’s

I picked some greenery and blooms (clematis, evening primrose, buttercups and dandelions) with my cup of Earl Grey as a centerpiece to celebrate May Day…

our garden has been atwitter with activity and birdsong…

Jenny and Harvey Wren are feeding little ones in a nest cleverly tucked away in a large flower pot (you can click the pic above to see what the wrens are having for tea)…

we have young Mourning Doves too that are so peaceful…

they freeze like little statues thinking we can not see them…

it is a delight to see the bees buzzing and hear the birds singing on this beautiful day further from winter heading closer to summer here in the Northern Hemisphere…

something odd has been going on in our garden too…

Robins behaving badly …

VERY badly

(do not feel sorry for this Robin the other leg is tucked out of sight)…

they have been relentlessly launching themselves into the glass of our back porch door

and having a poop-o-rama while they are at it…

(untouched photo with a Pixlr frame taken with Mr Magpie’s big camera lens looking over a bridge into a creek)

leaving us shaking our heads wondering when this madness will end...

shame as I always looked forward to the arrival of the Robins in Spring…

  2. Wow, that is a lovely tea you are serving up today. I love all the bird pictures, too. I am enjoying all the activity from our winged friends here as well. Lots of nest building and babies learning the ropes. Very busy spring so far! I hate it when they hit the doors. We have poop on our french doors from apparently the same sort of behavior.
Have a Wonderful May Day and T on T.

We have Mourning Doves here too (though we call them “cuculí”), ours have a bright blue/cyan ring around their eyes. I love the soft sound they make.

  6. Gorgeous pictures!!! Simply beautiful… The robins are here as well… not behaving as badly as yours! There was a window impact victim over at the new house yesterday…. they are like “there wasn’t a house even here last time I flew by”!!!

  7. Could they be seeing a reflection off the glass and think its another robin and they are protecting their territory???

  8. First, you are up early today. I love your May Day post. I nearly made a bunch of May Day baskets. but I have NO flowers left in my yard after the tulips, Easter lilies, peonies, and iris died. Yours is SO, SO colorful.

I was wondering what are the pink flowers? Are they the evening primrose? They grow wild by the roadside in Kansas. Hope you are having an awesome Tea Tuesday.

  9. I forgot to mention. I’ve never seen so many robins in my yard in my life. They are everywhere, and one even built a nest in a cubby of one of the columns on my front porch. They circle and circle and hop around unaware humans could be their enemies. You have also proven I need to wash the glass in my front storm window!! I’m off to add it to my list of to-do items.

  10. What a glorious welcome to May Patty! I love your nature mandala! Happy May Day! Your photos are just gorgeous. I’ve never seen such young mourning doves though we have several pairs of them nesting somewhere nearby every year.
Yes those robins can be rascals and yet amusing at the same time. I actually mark my calendar with the first day I see one and the last day I see one in a calendar year, and do the same with the hummingbirds.
Off to check the giveaway blogs-thanks for sharing them 🙂

  11. Spring has to be one of the most beautiful seasons in all of Creation….especially in the Northeast! Your pictures are lovely and capture the magic. I feel for you and the “robin situation,” as we have the same problem! Even the window decals don’t help! Have a beautiful week, dear friend!

  12. Your robins must be related to our house finches…….pooporama and kamakazie flights into the door! I love that you captured the robin with the bad feathers and stunned look on it’s face! I’m still chuckling!!!
Is it May already? Where did April go? Your post is quite tranquil with blossoms and tea, Patty. And your photography is beautiful (I see you reflected in the tea!).
Happy May Day to you and Mr Magpie. mwah…….Jan

  15. Lovely post Patty. It’s so alarming when birds launch themselves into windows. I stopped one by pulling down a shade over the window. Some people say putting up post it’s or something to stop them from seeing their reflection works.

  17. Beautiful captures as usual- I miss my pink primroses!!! The robin is defending against what he thinks is an intruder. If you can, just cover the glass for a while, so he won’t attack his reflection, make a mess, and possibly do himself damage. A pain, I know…..

So sad with the birds flying into the windows-I experience it also here, and while Mathilde visited,we had to burry one little Redneck that flew against a window in my door! Your photo of the white rose is so stunning dear friend.
Thankyou for your alwayes beautiful blog,–it makes me feel happy to visit you.
