I knew when I looked at her photos that we just had to visit while we were in Colorado…
we arrived at the Denver airport well before breakfast time and hotel check in time so we decided to drive about 25 miles northwest to the cool town of Boulder for some tea…
here is some of what the Teahouse website has to say:
“The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse is nestled against the Rocky Mountain Foothills in Boulder Colorado. Sitting alongside Boulder Creek in Central Park, the Teahouse is considered one of Boulder’s most attractive and popular tourist attractions, as well as being a local favorite for great food, tea, and atmosphere.
Completely built by hand without the use of any power tools, the Teahouse was constructed in Dushanbe, Tajikistan as a gift to their sister city, Boulder. It was disassembled, crated up, and sent halfway around the world to be rebuilt in Boulder as a symbol of friendship and cultural exploration. The elaborate and creative teahouse now sits as a reminder to the citizens of Boulder to value cultural diversity, global cooperation, and international friendship.”
Sandy’s Traveling Gnome Cedric who you saw last week in Aspen really enjoyed the tea house…
after the four hour flight from Dulles Airport in Virginia he started with a nice tall drink of water…
the tea menu was extensive…
we decided on chai tea and a lovely lunch which I was too excited to eat much of…
the fountain of the Seven Beauties was so photogenic with koi swimming in the pool around the sculpture with more details about that here if you are interested…
this was definitely the kind of place you wanted to sit and linger for a while to drink it all in…
just outside in Boulder’s Central Park the farmer’s market was in full swing as it was a blue sky sunny really mild day for the end of November…
everyone was out and about…

we look forward to visiting again as there is so much to see and do and we will get to see our youngest son again too…

That ceiling in the Dushanbe Teahouse is simply incredible: a mixed media artist’s dream! It looks like a “must see” for anyone who drinks tea. Cedric looked quite tiny against the tin of tea, though. And of course, he is so mischievous, he would need that tranquil tea!
I always love street musicians and never walk past one without putting a bit of money in their bucket. I remember one year Joseph and I were in Albuquerque and he paid for the trip home with money he made playing his steel drums on the streets while I attended a conference.
BTW, I loved the info on Cedric, or rather Gnomes in general.

What an extraordinaire gift from Tacikistan to Boulder, what a fantastic work of art,-just an amazing tour fro you to take. The farmers market looks also inviting and I love the baby beats in all their colours, haven`t ?t seen such here.-The weather looks beautiful and sunny, can`t say the same here, dear Patty. Snow and more snow!!!

oh thank you for the beautiful trip while i enjoyed my coffee & stollen! what a fantastic place you explored…magical! i love the park’s ride sign with the bird identifier…how cool is that? we are hoping to make our way west this summer for a ‘see america’ trip…will hope to add boulder to the list! that tea shop is beautiful…what a gift to give…

The teahouse would be beautiful to view as a building and it looks so peaceful but to learn that it was a gift from a place so far removed from Boulder is an incredible tale.

That little gnome gets around! What a wonderful spot – another for the to do list! I just love the sentiment of the gift to the community what a wonderful gesture. I also loved the seven sisters and the story behind them – the sculpture has wonderful energy and beauty.
