Rinda’s 2013 Summertime Photography Scavenger Hunt: Part 3

here are my final photographs for Rinda’s scavenger hunt this year (if you like you may visit my Part 1 and Part 2 as well)…

16. A windmill

#16 Scotland Wind Turbines

you can see lots of modern windmills off in the distance here dotting the Scottish countryside…

#16 Wind turbines

and a closer look at these giants which we also have here in the states…

#16 Golden Gate Park

here is a beautiful windmill we found on a recent emergency trip we took to California in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco

17. Candle(s)

#17 Swiss Luminaria

this is a special candle inside a Swiss paper luminaria from my sweet friend Margaret

18. Your local pub/bar, coffee house or tea shop

#18 coffee house tea shop

here in the Metropolitan Washington DC area we are inundated with Starbucks coffee shops…we like using REAL ceramic mugs when we visit our local spot…

19. A fisherman

#19 Lake Windermere UK

Mr Magpie snapped a photo of a young man fishing off the back of a boat on Lake Windermere in the Lake District in the UK…

20. A dinosaur

#20 Dino Museum of Scotland Edinburgh

a visit to the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh found this good sized Tyrannosaurus Rex…

#20 T Rex collage

the museum was wonderful

National Museum of Scotland roof view

and the views from the garden rooftop

Natl Museum of Scotland Rooftop

were quite spectacular too…

21. A photograph of you with an artistic tool or craft supply (you cannot substitute for this item)

#21 Lotusland Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens Wash DC

Mr Magpie snapped a photo of me at the amazing Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens just outside of Washington, DC a few days after our return from the UK back in June…

my camera is a favorite art tool that I would definitely not want to be without…

Bonus/substitute items.

If you find any of the above items too difficult, feel free to substitute either (or both) of these items.

You can substitute up to two items, but you cannot substitute Item #21

*A person wearing an outfit (or item of clothing) that symbolizes your country

Bonus 4th of July

just to be clear we do NOT know this person decked out in red white and blue on the fourth of July…

when I spotted him at the gas station while we were out driving I yelled “stop the car” and my quick acting driver/co conspirator did just that…

you don’t see this sort of get up every day here in the states 😉

*A sundial

Bonus Shakespeares home sundial

we found this relatively modern 1971 sundial in the garden of William Shakespeare’s birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon…

Bonus Oxford UK Sundial

and this vertical sundial was in an Oxford College courtyard…

many thanks to Rinda again this year for a really fun photo scavenger hunt

  6. Adore #21 Great job 🙂

  7. Great photos Patty. Glad you had such fun visiting the UK earlier. We are fortunate to live in beautiful North Wales. Kind regards, John W

  8. Loved following this journey.

  9. I had to laugh at the windmills. They are all around my area, and many are within a few miles of me. However, as I watch more and more British and European TV shows, I notice they are a way of life in the countryside. I was especially surprised to see them in large bodies of water.

Your photos are, as always, spectacular. And of course, they were right on point, too.

Saw your comment on Halle’s blog and was thrilled to read about your trip. So glad things are starting to work out. Now I’m off to see what else I’ve missed in the two days I was offline.

  10. Super dinosaur and the guy in the stars and stripes. BJ

  11. Your sky lines are just superb – it’s been a lot of fun hasn’t it?!

  12. Wonderful photos. I love how you take us every where you travel. It’s the next, best thing, to being there with you! xxoo M

  13. Fabulous finds! I just laughed to see that guy decked out in his patriotic outfit. I’ll bet there have been quite a few of us calling out to get the driver to stop for a photo this summer!

  14. so many wonderful scavenger hunt photos and I love how you have collaged together some extras

  15. Patty, dear woman, the photo of you and the lotus flowers, is just the best and most beautiful!!!
Also love the one with that younger man dressed in your “flag” I can tell you, that when in Copenhagen to celebrate Gustav and Henning in July, we also saw a woman totally dressed in the American flag… no photo,– but she wore like a ballet dress,-tights .stars and stripes …. and the upper “blouse, was also showing the flag, and then there was ofcourse a real hat ,too in stars and the real colours -she was fantastic… little, very round and beautiful!!
I love the old windmiills, we have many here ,-but also many of the new ones produsing electricity ,-in Denmark.
    Hugs from here, and xx

  17. Must say I fell in like with the mugs in your Starbucks photo – don’t know what they use here but I suspect it’s the usual paper ones (boring!). I’ve enjoyed your photo scavenger hunt posts!

  18. Your pictures are beautiful and I love the frames you used. The sundials, skies and windmills are so lovely.

  19. Wow! I didn;t know those windmills were in the Golden Gate park. I’ll have to go see those next time I get to San Fransisco.

  20. Excellent photos as always- and I get a glimpse of you!!!

  21. Dear Patty
I had to chuckle at your declaration that you do not know the person decked out in red, white and blue!
    A wonderful post.
Patty, I will be writing a post about this but to say that you cannot use my old e-mail address. I literally spent all day yesterday on the phone to AOL for them to resolve an issue with my AOL account and they refuse to do so. Incredibly frustrated and matters made worse as they do not have a U.K. base and really I was having the biggest rant possible – not at them although my frustrated conduct surely did come across, they would not listen and would not help.
I have since set up a hotmail account at

I cannot access my old e-mails, retrieve them in any way and have no access to e-mail addresses, including your own.

Patty, as we communicate I so wanted you to be aware of this situation.
    Have a wonderful Sunday.

  22. Wonderful job! Thanks so much for playing along. I took photos of the Golden Gate Park windmills, too, as I work in S.F. I hope all is well after your emergency trip here.
And so good to see YOU in the garden. I love putting faces with everyone’s names and blogs.

  23. Oh, I wish this wasn’t the last post of your Scavenger Hunt photos! I have enjoyed them all so much. I always feel like I have been whisked away for a super quick vacation. Your photos pull me in and I feel like I have been there. Thank you so much for sharing them.

  24. That July 4th man makes me smile – that’s dedication 🙂 Congratulations on finding them all – spread over two continents.

  25. Whoot, whoot, this is fabulous, I got to visit some friends in England who lived in an old windmill it was amazing. Kool lantern, we have a few star bucks, I love those face mugs, in Canada we have a Tim Horton’s on every corner :). I was checking out the link to Lake Windermere, did you know they have an animal called Tizzie-Whizie he is really cute, I couldn’t find him anywhere else, must be with the fairies.. Oh my I have never seen a dinosaur, they look huge. Looooove the Scottish sky’s and views, gorgeous. My very favorite photo, you with your fabulous umbrella, artist at work, you look like a little fairy with those huge leaves and flowers, excellent picture. Well that is quite a getup, very American :).. Beautiful sundial a vertical sundial, well I never, it’s brilliant, Thanks for sharing this photo journey, it’s been a pleasure to visit as always my dear, (((( BIG HUGS))))

  26. Hey Patty… great shots. Love seeing you behind the camera too.

  27. Again…such wonderful photos!! Love that Mr. Magpie got a fun shot of you to finish off the main list. Just perfect.
I want to do this scavenger hunt next year!!

  28. Great photos! You are so dedicated to whatever task you take on!!! Love that!

  29. Fabulous photos. Loving the fisherman, and interesting to see that you’ve been in Edinburgh for some of the photos. 🙂 I hope you had a nice trip to the UK in June.

  30. Great snaps, and the one of you in the garden is lovely.

  31. Oh my – I cannot believe your success with such a random, huge list!! Love the photos and, I agree about drinking coffee from ceramic mugs!

  32. It’s been so much fun to see the differences in photos from all around the world. Although, the windmills I photographed look a lot like the ones in your first photo – but they are in a desert setting rather than lush green grass.

  33. fabulous sundials and funny to see your dinosaur is from the same place as mine – although a different one

  34. what really fantastic treasure hunt finds Patty!! Love your UK photos-looks like you had pretty good weather. I was in Stratford to visit but it was many yrs ago. I don’t recall the beautiful sun dial.

  35. What great finds! Loving the person wearing red white and blue:) Thanks for popping by on my blog too!

  36. I agree – drinking coffee from a real ceramic mug tastes so much better (and feels much more like a treat and a little breather during the day).

  37. Lots of great finds! Love #21

  38. Thank you for visiting my blog and your kind comments! Your photos are all wonderful! I do like the one of you with your camera and all your windmill photos particularly 🙂

  39. Great shots, I’m so happy that I did go back searching for the missed posts, nice to meet you! 🙂
