this piece was actually my first for this month’s Art Journal Journey ‘House’ theme but I held it back (I shared my ‘house of dreams’ here)…
it took me out of my comfort zone a bit sketching and painting after watching some Mindy Lacefield videos…
I played like I was a kid again and when my open eyed girl wouldn’t cooperate I let her close her eyes for a rest…
I was most excited to find this perfect poem when looking for some words to balance my journal page…
This being human is a guest house
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond. ~Rumi
the Rumi quote is so beautiful it inspired me to create a spread (two pages) in one of my altered Funk & Wagnalls Encyclopedias (I have several art journals underway)…
collage has always been near and dear to my heart…
playing with images and bits of paper…scissors and glue with touches of paint and plaster too…
as a finishing touch for my pages I added some vines from my flower press…
the vines are actually naughty weeds that are having way too much fun frolicking in our garden ~♥~
breathtaking pages Patty! Oh MY!!!
Love your style… maybe I always repeat me..but it is true!
Lol.. we are a bit connected – at least within our creative souls…
I did also some plaster work today… it’s not ready yet… but I love it !
Fantastic pages do you share with us at AJJ Patty!
A wonderful weekend for you and Jim!
First hot days are predicted for us here… uff…
so cold the last weeks>>>

Oh, what can I say? Every page takes my breath away! I love your sleeping girl and the little houses; but every page is a delight! I really admire the poetry of Rumi and this one is new to me: what wisdom! A lovely and inspiring post. You always give me something to wonder at and to think about. Thank you. Julie Ann xxx

Letting her rest was a great solution. 😊 Love the guest house page….the bees are just perfect all lined up. Great texture too!

That’s a great quote. I love both interpretations. And fun to draw again. I had to smile at the second spread — the colors are so neutral! I think of you being like me and working a lot in blues and greens — the white SEEMS out of your zone! But it is just wonderful. I need to do that more — work out of my zone. Good discipline!

Again such lovely dream pages and the poem is very true. Anything can teach us something. The vintage lady looks so nice, I love these oldfashioned photos.
Nice weekend my dear.

The fact her eyes are closed appeals to me all the more. The sense of peace, serenity, tranquility exudes from her and from the page. I wish I could step into this page and take a step into this house.
Thank you for sharing this piece of poetry which is one that I have not come across before.
It is late evening in my little corner of the world and I believe, reading this post at this time of the day has made it all the more magical.

I spent a great deal of time studying these pages, because they are simply wonderful. I love houses, so they made me happy, as did the pressed vine that was really a weed. But I was also impressed with the plaster, the wonderful bees, and of course, the heart. You make art feel so original and blessed. These are simply stunning, for lack of a better word.

Oh my gosh! Love your pages! I was going to write and ask you if you tried to make those primitive girls! I LOVE Mindy Lacefield’s girls. I drew and drew and drew yesterday….and painted, and used colored pencils…. couldn’t do it! I finally quit trying. Why are they sooooo hard? I really want to accomplish them……. maybe I’ll try again….

Dearest Patty, your pages are just so extra beautiful , (extra meaning in loos for another word ) but they are so specially beautiful with the whiteness and green ,so serene, and filled with a kind of heavenly piece, that I often admire in your collages.
Also your sleeping beauty, is so very lovely, in her land of dreams.
I can feel how happy you was creating those pages ,dear friend.

What a great poem, I don’t know this poet at all.
Your pages are so wonderful, it’s hard to know what to say, they are so sensitively made, again with your subtle use of colours. Your two pages -the house and heart are outstanding. This is the third time I’ve been here and no comments can do your art justice. Fabulous artwork indeed.
