my 4×6 inch flat canvas began with various scraps of paper glued down for the background and a bit of Artist’s Cement (which is like molding paste but a bit rubbery when dry) stenciled on at the top with a wash of paint…
the circle was a cut out from a long ago project that I still had kicking around
and I got to playing with a roll of plaster I had picked up at a thrift shop years ago for the horizontal stripe…
I am entering this in the new online monthly mixed media challenge at The Mirror Crack’d for their “Anything (Mixed Media) goes”…
focusing on balance is definitely a good affirmation for me…
Gorgeous !!!!

You master balance beautifully there! I’ve never tried that particular adhesive. USArtQuest isn’t far from where I live and they offer free in-studios where you can try their products. I’m hoping to get to some of them this fall and will definitely check that out.

I’ve looked high and low locally for that plaster and you found it in a thrift store. Aren’t you the lucky gal.
A new challenge I’ve never heard of. Sounds like it’s right up your alley. Lovely first entry, too.

At last I have a few peaceful moments to read and ponder this one, Patty. And I just love it! The shapes are superb, the texture wonderful. It’s just a joy the way you’ve created something unique from these great bits and bobs. The way you’ve used the plaster is so inspiring. I heard about this challenge from Shilpa lately and I love the sound of it. I really hope I get a bit more time in the future to maybe play along with one of the future challenges. Have a lovely, creative week. Julie Ann xxx

This is stunning Patty! I will definitely be following along on that blog and hopefully doing a piece or two myself. I am so new (and not very good at) mixed media, but practice is the way to get better, right? Even if I don’t post on the challenge, they will be on my blog. Thanks for inspiring me!

I love this! The plaster really makes it pop, is it a roll of plaster of paris? or normal sticking plaster, it looks to me like the plaster of paris that they make up for broken limbs. Whatever it is, it’s fabulous. Love the green and blue colour palette too, lovely and bright.
Thanks for sharing in our first ever challenge

This should be displayed in a beautiful frame and have pride of place on a wall because how I love this.
It brings to mind, for me anyway, rolling green hillsides with the prettiest of wildflowers and with water trickling in a nearby burn and puffy clouds floating in the indigo sky.
