lost and found …

for T Stands for Tuesday today I am sharing a little story that began back in November 2011 when I treated myself to a Gelli Plate on a visit to a favorite stamp and art store

Magpie's Nest Gelli Plate

before I got a chance to open it the holidays were upon us and early in 2012 we replaced old carpeting with new which meant alot of upheaval and shifting of things…

Magpie's Nest Garden Squirrel

the last thing I remembered was putting that brand spanking new gelli plate flat in a container for safe keeping…

Magpie's Nest Mr Cardinal

on and off for all that time I entertained myself with homemade gelli plate printing on paper and fabric hoping that the ‘real’ one would turn up…

Omi's Wooden Hummel Frame

just a few days shy of three years to my delight there it was buried under “stuff” (I came to the realization that the loss of my mother in Feb 2011 affected me in more ways than I knew)

Magpie's Nest Kitchen Shelfie

it feels good to be digging through things here lately trying to lighten my load…

DSC02950

in the same bin as the gelli plate there was a wide brayer and an assortment of manila tags for printing…

Magpie's Nest Cuppa Joe

all of this sorting has kept me more unplugged than usual with so much still to go through AND I of course need to open that gelli plate package soon and play …

  1. Ah, Patty…I, too, have been doing some sorting, trying to refine where I want to focus with my creative endeavors. I’m so glad to hear that you, too, put things away for later, only to find them much later. LOL! At least I always have wonderful surprises when I rearrange and sort!

  5. Oh dear Patty- yet again we are on the same wavelength. I have begun avidly purging and organizing which does take a lot of time-yet I NEED to take that time to do it. I have only begun last week-am meditating again too, and just found out in the last few days I have won three very special giveaways online. Gives me the goosebumps. So happy for you to have found your gelli plate and supplies-I only wish I could simply hop in my car and come play with you! Your photos are just beautiful, as usual too. Happy T day my friend.

  23. Hi Patty, your photos are gorgeous and it’s interesting how you found the Gelli plate… was it buried somehow? I understand how the emotions of losing your Mom could cause forgetfulness. Take good care, Shirleyxx

  24. I can totally relate. I put things away for safe keeping and completely forget where they are. So frustrating. Glad it turned up. My goal is to do some deep cleaning/sorting/purging very soon. I’ve started a little bit. It was quite freeing!!

Happy T Day – what a super find. I enjoyed all the images you shared with us this week. I love that AA Milne quote, it is very appropriate in this instance, and almost constantly for me. I have found Christmas presents at Easter time on more than one ocassion. 😀

  28. Hello and Happy T Day! What a sweet post this was, yay for lost treasure to play with. I do that all the time, especially when hiding Christmas gifts, the kids laugh every year and ask me if I really brought out all the gifts.
Thank you for sharing the beautiful photos with us. Happy week to you.

  29. I have a gelli plate…and know right where it is…but haven’t played with it but once. I’ve been so busy purging. Hummm…I maybe need to stop and play more. 😉 But then I have a new sewing machine to unbox…I think I would have had to be born triplet-mes to get done everything I want to get done–LOL! Happy T-Day!! 🙂

  30. I remember you telling me you “lost” your gelli. I so wanted one, then when I got it, I didn’t care for it. I’ve only used it once at Kathy’s then put it away. it requires LOTS of room to play. I hope you like yours better than I like mine.

While looking for a stamp the other day, I also decided it was time to purge. I need to do it for my sanity, even though I consider myself a neat freak. It just goes to show, even neat freaks can allow clutter to take over your life.

Your photos are stunning, and that shelfie is adorable. I simply LOVE the measuring spoons. That made me smile. Of course, I also was impressed by the hand, another of your signature pieces. I also adore your ladder. I have a tall one in my office I put plants, photos, and books on.

Thanks for sharing your found gelli, your stunning photos, and your shelfies with us for T this Tuesday.

  33. Patty, the wonderful news is that you found it along with a brand new and waiting to get painty, brayer and all those fabulous tags. You will have so much fun and I eagerly await your ventures into mono printing because I know I will be so inspired.
I was lucky enough to receive one via That’s Crafty and so enjoyed it but as can happen, there is the need to play with other items so it has been laid aside for the past few months. Maybe once I am up-to-date with Christmas makes I will enjoy it once again.
What I need to do in the New Year is lighten my load because I am feeling that I need to do this and it will make me feel a lot better especially when time and energy is wasted as I try to locate a particular stamp, paint, ink, etc!

  34. Patty, I love your photos!!! You know, I did a lot of discovering as I was packing and purging. Now, unfortunately most of my art supplies are in a POD somewhere in Philly… 🙂 I keep meaning to check and see if I packed my gelli plate… if so I’ll just have to make a homemade one. 🙂

  40. Sometimes i think we are meant to find the things we lose in our house at a time when we are ready to find them, when we need them. I loved how you shared this story. And knowing how well you ‘gell’, having the plate reappear must be extra fun! Now, if only the flowered pink flannel sheets I lost in the house two years ago would show up… maybe your post will bring me good karma!

  41. This made me laugh….as I found a box from 2004,,,,yes, 2004,,,on one of our moves and here I thought it was gone forever and here there was artwork, cards, projects, painted papers,,,,you name it…..I freaked out. I was not lucky enough to find a gelli plate in there though:) I have one but who knows where it is??? I gotta go on a scavenger hunt I guess. Just found another box of Xmas cards which I made LAST YEAR and did not know where they got to……geeez, if my head were not attached I guess I’d lose that toooooo. Hope you had a nice weekend….we had a beautiful sunny autumn day today.
