we are not lost …

Magpie's Nest not lost (3)putting off packing seemed the perfect time to play in my art journal…

Magpie's Nest not lost (1)

do you also find that when you have something you “should” be doing it can be more fun to do something else…

Magpie's Nest not lost (2)

these pages began with a moo I made way back when…

Magpie's Nest not lost (4)

leading me to use some soft pink paint and hand dyed silk ribbon along with a bit of stenciling using part of one of Gio’s  masks

Magpie's Nest not lost

“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.”  -J.R.R. Tolkien

  1. Ah, yes, Patty, I do it all the time. I do some of my best work that way! LOL! Your page is wonderful, that little girl has such a sweet pensive face. Enjoy your time away! PS Thanks for all the kind comments on Flickr!

  3. Do you mean me? ! I am always lost in something wonderful if I have to do something different…oh yes… but that is a circumstand that we can see as a gift from a special inner muse… I appreciate this in the meanwhile. I feel that I am a big child and children submerge in the game, because playing suspends the gravity of time.
What a marvelously beautiful spread dear Patty!
Isn’t it a gift to get such a great spread instead of doing something uninteresting….L☺☺☺L!

  6. It is a gorgeous spread, love what you did with the mask dearest Patty, and the soft pink is wonderful with the dark grey or is ir green tones, also in the lovely image of the little girl , with the beautiful background. The pink and tulle makes it so feminine, and lovely.
Well my dear, I`m such a nervous one, so just about packing I want to be ready in good time…but about almost every other kind od work to be done…I can easily “forget” and go play -lol.

  7. I love this quote, especially the words, ‘Not all who wander are lost’. Your ‘moo’ is so beautiful and fits just perfectly. The image of the little girl reminds me of when I was little. People often thought I seemed lost and worried, but I always felt I knew just where I was headed! I think I always wanted to create the things I create now and I journeyed on looking for the ways and skills to bring them into being. They may not be perfect, but they are what my dreams were made of. And yes, it’s true, it’s nearly always more fun to play when we ‘should’ be doing something else! Sometimes it’s really hard to leave the house I want to play creatively so much! Have a lovely trip, Patty and thank you for all the beautiful creations you share. xxx

  10. I’m the person who packs five days before I need to leave, then take time to play after that. But I think whatever works for each person is what is important.

Your spread is beautiful. I like the glittery covering you used, too. I was especially impressed with the extra piece you used at the bottom of the left page. It created so much interest, I thought.

I remember the first time I used that Tolkien poem. It’s a wonderful poem, isn’t it? And so many people don’t really know the entire poem. This is a great way to start your vacation, or end your stay at home!

  11. Packing is not my favourite thing to do, but consider what is to come…. a wonderful holiday! I’m glad my studio is downstairs and separate from the rest of the house, or I’d be constantly distracted by my ‘toys’ and never do anything else.

  14. No, I have to have my packing done before anything else, even art, and packing also takes ages – especially deciding what art supplies and books to take.
I adore your delicate blue creations, such soft subtle colours and designs, so different from what I do.
    Have a great trip!

  15. Hi Patty, oh yes I often am doing something fun instead of what ‘needs’ to be done. Your vintage pages are beautiful in the soft pinks with your special style of art. It’s snowing heavy here, I’m not ready, it’s a month early (at least). Take care, Shirleyxx

The moo is so beautiful, there is something so touching about that child’s face and stand alone is a beautiful piece of art but then paired with Gio’s stencil, wow, it brings a completely new dimension to the moo .
