January has found me floundering a bit with more thinking about creating than actually doing much of it… I am feeling betwixt and between about alot of things…
that said I have joined Alena Hennessey’s A YEAR OF PAINTING online course and I am working with acrylic inks… paint pens and more (this piece still needs work)…
the first piece I attempted morphed many times and is still in limbo not telling me where to go next…truth be told I liked the first ink background but we were supposed to keep adding layers (that is when I started the “live in Love”)…

I can relate, Patty, about working outside the comfort zone! I guess that’s why taking classes is good — you aren’t expected to be the expert, you are expected to feel a little out of the zone as you use new materials or old materials in a different way. I’m very fond of your book cover. And I get that layering thing. In my workshop this weekend we were layering and I realized that sometimes you need to know when to stop. I keep reminding myself that things I don’t like are just opportunities to creatively make them into something I do. Yes, I DO keep telling myself that!

This looks like an awesome course, but I could never do this for an entire year. I look forward to seeing all the pieces you make and see how your painting progresses through this year.
Your daffodils are gorgeous, and the perfect addition to the teapot and tea you have chosen on this cold, snowy day in your region. I hope you are safe and warm. Looks like you will get some of the snow, but not nearly as much as the T gals in the more northern areas.

I love seeing the daffodils which bring me the hope of Spring in the midst of winter. Your painting is perfectly beautiful Patty!! I am learning how hard it can be to keep adding or taking away from a piece especially when you liked it already. It IS good to push through though-you always come away with new eyes and fresh inspiration in the end. Courage dear friend. Love the quote. Happy T day!

Oh Patty, I am envious that you are taking that course- I look forward to more of your progress from it. I know the feeling of when you like a point but the instruction says one more layer! Then ugh! recently I pulled my book from the table and said- no more layers yet…till I really decide where this is going- happy I did that because it is now progressing quite well…
I am such a huge fan of your art and photos and this day you brought much needed sunshine into my snow covered world! thank you my friend! love & hugs

Taking a new direction and trying new things is fantastic. Comfort zones are meant to stepped out of from time to time, and it is double good when you learn something new.
I do like your painting, in all the stages.

Oh Patty, you say you are floundering then you produce a delightful piece like “Live in Love”! I think you will have a wonderful time with this course and will produce your own versions. Some artists like to put on layer after layer, some like more minimalist art and some like in-between. I am very much looking forward to seeing more of your art inspired by this course.
