snow day …

Mother Nature extended the Presidents Day weekend into four days with our first measurable snowfall of the season which is nothing compared to what lots of folks are experiencing in other parts of the U.S…

Frozen bird spa before snow

the hustle and bustle of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area has come to a crawl with schools and many businesses closed for the day (the bird spa with it’s heater is working extra hard this winter but water is still running in our farm fountain above…recent cold and very windy weather created a sort of ice sculpture)…

garden heart

we were expecting more snow but our area got almost half as much as predicted…

Oh deer Christmas Tree

just enough to blanket everything in pure white powdery snow or “pow” as our snowboarding son calls it…

T cup tower before heavy snow

in anticipation I put a little tea cup tower out in our back garden thinking it might look pretty in the snow (the teapot is a planter)…

T cup tower after snow

Mr Magpie arranged some Valentine rose petals for their last hurrah just off the back porch this morning…

petal heart

with very cold temperatures the snow could stay on the ground for awhile…

Snow capped Buddha

here’s wishing you and yours a happy T day along with everyone over at Elizabeth’s Altered Book Lover...

Pretty. I heard you were getting freezing rain on top of your snow. Must be a nightmare driving down there. Slogged through a 4 foot snowbank to walk the dog at the river. Cold cold. xox

  6. That’s just a nice amount of snow to make everything look pretty (we have not had any lying snow all winter).
I’m fascinated by your Spa for the birds – and I thought our birds were well looked after.
Love your idea of a teacup tower (how very original) and love Mr. Magpie’s heart of rose petals.
A lovely gentle blogpost, thanks Patty.

  8. I love your sweet snowy photos so much, all these nice places in your garden look so inviting. But what kind of blue necklace did your Buddha wear? Is it of blue glas? Oh your nice heart of roses looks so beautiful in the white snow with the nice ornament under it. Can’t stop looking, it’s really soul food. Thank you for sharing. We had spring temperatures the last days and we began to do something in the garden. But at night it is frosty.

What a delightful garden, even with the snow 😀 I bet the local birds feel like they’re at a spa resort when they visit you, lol 😀 I love the teacups on the table.

  18. When I saw your farm fountain above, it reminded me of my kitchen faucet when it froze. Not as dramatic, but similar. However, my water was no longer dripping or circulating like yours (grin).

These photos are wonderful. And Mr. M. always seems to bring a bit of magic into the picture, too. Although they make me feel cold, these are stunning photos, including the teacups.

Thanks for sharing these beauties with us for T this Tuesday.

  20. That’s the lovely kind of snow. Funny how your tea cups got blanketed. It’s so windy up here all the time they’d be knocked over in no time.

  22. Hello dear Patty,
Your weather seems to behave like ours, as we also have had very little snow, on “my” island – and even we wants spring, it sure is beautiful with a layer of fresh white snow. How sweet with the cups out there, and with Jim`s beautiful heart,-saying it all !!
It must be very cold with the frozen water !!
    Sending you a warm hug.

  27. Mr. Magpie rocks! Gorgeous photos, Patty. I am intrigued by your warmed bird spa. I’ve been pretty worried about the birds here — I’m leaving food but water freezes almost on contact, even if close to boiling when I put it out. And I hope they’re having a warm spot for rest. Your snow photos are lovely — only you would set out teacups the night before! Pretty!

We are freezing here too, it’s -26 this morning and was a few days this week. That never happens here but now it keeps happening, YUCK! We got more snow over this week too and more might come tomorrow.
Can’t wait to see spring and thaw out again. Stay warm and safe friend. Hugs!
