one of our Spring traditions is to try and catch the Wisteria in bloom at our favorite city garden about 20 miles away in Washington, DC…
being able to visit on a cool and breezy weekday afternoon was extra nice as it was not crowded at all…
the last time I shared Wisteria photos with you was in 2013 and the Swarovski Crystal Cloud Terrace was still at Dumbarton Oaks (we really miss that alot!!!)…
the gardens are always beautifully tended but we did notice special touches like Pan’s hooves … horns and flute spruced up with gold paint above…
the decorative ironwork had a fresh coat of paint too…
we stood a long time admiring the metal bleeding hearts… lilies and leaves on one of the garden gates…
one lovely thing after another to catch your eye…
with different varieties of wisteria planted throughout the gardens…
the blooms were in all stages and each variety had its own delicate fragrance that attracted lots of bumblebees…
our traveling tea cup came along and made it into a fair number of photos (I counted ten times in these photos)…
you can blame the number of photos on the fact that we returned a second day to explore the gardens…
AND there was a perfect blue sky to make everything shine…
the parade of blooms was just beginning…
each day in nature has special treats in store…
a Mourning Dove with very good taste built a nest on top of a lamp in a lovely mosaic alcove…
there will be a bit of clean up needed to get that area back in shape after the little ones leave the nest…

WOW!! Thank you SO much for the beautiful walk through the magnificent Wisteria gardens 😀 There is a house near us that has an exquisite one waterfalling down the side of their house that I love to go out of my way to see every year and the perfume is a pure delight 😀

What an incredibly beautiful place! I love wisteria — it doesn’t appear to be something you see here often — I wonder if we’re a little far north to really have it do well. Or be a good gardener! But I would have been gasping like a crazy girl!

Gorgeous photos, as usual, Patty. Your eye for detail is unbelievable. I remember the Crystal Cloud Terrace, and I can understand why you are saddened that it is now gone. But there were enough other places to visit, I’m sure they were decent replacements.
Two days visiting these magic gardens must have been heaven for the two of you, Like a mini vacation.
I didn’t find 10 tea cups but I found seven. So it seems your tea cup gets around a LOT.

You do visit the most magical places. Wisteria is a favourite of mine. It reminds me of our years in Sydney where it grew prolifically in most of the gardens in our neighbourhood. Now that we are in a warmer climate we don’t see it very often.

How beautiful! We planted a wisteria in one of our gardens and it grew but never blossomed….apparently it was a quite a feat to even get the vine to grow in our area.

This place is just amazing, with all the flowers all around, and the most beautiful Wisteria hanging high and low . A marvelous garden, and also the inside experiences are fantastic,- I loved seing the birds nest inside that lovely place, dear Patty. What a gorgeous garden to be able visiting, with all the beauty,you bring home, in your memory and with the photoes.

What spectacular gardens to have close by! Purple (and all its shades) is my favorite color, and it was a joy to my eyes to visit today. Thank you for the lovely comments on my post–our day was wonderful & I plan to blog about it as soon as I catch my breath and take the photos off my camera!
