it is a pleasant 30 minute drive to the country to visit Burnside Farms heading away from suburbia…
after not picking any flowers on our first visit to the farm (I was just too excited taking photos and enjoying everything!) I had a wonderful time cutting some gladioli this visit…
turns out my decision to take home just six stems did not quite fill my mother’s crystal pitcher so I cut three more stems on my third visit a couple of days later…
we were blessed with a few wonderful sunny low humidity days which were perfect for sitting out on the back porch enjoying a special cup of pour over coffee OR as we used to call it years ago “Melitta drip” coffee…
I was surprised and then again not really to discover that we still had our original porcelain filter holder for making coffee along with a box of unbleached filters…
it tasted especially good in the beautiful olive tree cup that a sweet friend sent to me all the way from Greece last summer…
lately I have been drinking more coffee than tea partly because I am paying a bit of extra attention to reducing my sugar intake and when I drink black tea (organic Earl Grey is my favorite) I take it with a little milk and sugar…
when I drink homemade coffee (half high test and half decaf) I only add a bit of coconut creamer which goes nicely with my favorite coffee yoghurt and flax seed muffin…

I’ve never seen a Melitta filter like that–very cool! Probably, of course because I only drink tea–no sugar, skim milk. The gladioli are simply gorgeous colors!

They are so beautiful, your pink and red gladiolus ,and lovely and elegant in your mothere wonderful pitcher , – Love the photo with the Henry Van Dyke poem.The coffe you blend with coconut cream, sounds wonderful, too- I almost never drink coffee ,(my stomach) but loves it, and also a Latte …but tea is mostly on the table here !!
Your old Melitte filter, is great dear Patty….we used Melitta drip, also before 🙂

Your flowers are beautiful ♥ They remind me of all the glads that my Dad used to grow. I can remember going for a long care ride to visit a gladiolus farm as a young child and being in awe of the row after row of beautiful flowers.I planted some this year but they haven’t bloomed yet..but it’s been a very strange year for growing things here 🙂

I take my coffee and tea black. I love your porcelain Melitta drip maker. Mine’s a brown plastic and practical, but still I think the porcelain would be best.

What a beautiful post with all those gladioli in it. The colours are so beautiful. I enjoyed looking at them.
The Melita filter brought back memories. People still use them in Holland but mostly use electric coffee machines, where the coffee pours into a glass jug and stays hot on a ‘hot-plate’. You still have to put a paper filter in the machine though. I prefer to just use the old fashioned drip filter like you’ve got and just keep pouring hot water on it. It’s difficult to find filter coffee in the shops nowadays. It’s all espresso type coffee.

It sounds like you are singing a song! My word Patty, I have never seen a coffee pot quite like this. And that Brown Cow coffee creamer – what in the world! Sounds delicious. Leave it to you to make a healthy drink! I take my coffee with raw sugar and half and half. You know how much I like coming to your blog — you make quite a table setting. Had a few grapes did you? Gorgeous flower pictures too!

You sound like me when you write “I was surprised and then again not really.” I haven’t started purging in my kitchen yet, so I’ll probably find some of those gems, too.
I’m trying to find leaves and flowers for eco dyeing, and all I could think of was how great these glads would look either in an eco bundle or flower pounded. You don’t have to say it. I’m incorrigible.
I must admit, however, the lovely vignette you chose for this photo shoot was perfect and set off the glads beautifully. And of course, the cup was a great choice, too.
I gave up sugar years ago, but can’t seem to give up my 1/2 and 1/2. It keeps my stomach from getting the jitters because I drink coffee 24/7. I’m glad you found a way around your problem.

You do have such lovely outings with sunshine and colour. Your glads in a vase look magnificent, we planted some but so far they don’t like the Scottish summer and haven’t flowered yet, so I’ll keep admiring yours.
I’ve just gone back and enlarged the Brown Cow and next to him is a divine patchwork cover with beautiful old (I think) fabrics. What a nice surprise.

Wow, looks like you were having a lovely coffee party-(or kind of like fika as they call it in Sweden). How pretty the garden looks and your coffee pot is different. I have never seen one of these Mellita’s. I bet sitting in the garden having a cup of Jo and a muffin and those gorgeous glads. Lucky you to have nice weather too, I think you sent the heat and humidity north to New Hampshire!

High test coffee – love that expression!! Seeing your beautiful glads makes me want some now, so I might have to hit the farmers market early on Saturday before the prettiest ones are all gone.

Those glads are fabulous! Oh, the whole thing is! Me, more of a tea than coffee girl. Love the way coffee smells, can’t handle the taste. While I take my tea plain I’m afraid I’d have 500 calories of “cover the flavor flavorings” in it! So I’m impressed!
