  3. This sounds like something Dennis would just love—he is much more of a plum person than me, but this sounds so good it just might make me a convert! It also sounds easy to make which is a bonus in my book. Happy T Day, Patty!

  4. Wow.. your Zwetschgenkuchen looks more than yummie!
I have to make Zwetschgenknödel every week just now for my hubby!
He is a Sweetie and likes to eat Pfannkuchen, Kaiserschmarrn, Germknödel and Zwetschkenknödel as much as possible.
Enjoy your fine weather to eat plain air- I just sat on my porch enjoying the last sun .. it’s rather cold this days – so every warm sunshine must be exploited!

  6. Now this is a recipe that I am definitely going to try. Our plum tree does have plumes every year … it blooms so early that it often gets frost kill 😦 but when it does we are blessed with an abundance of plums and I’m always looking for ways to use them… You can only use so much jelly and jam. 🙂 Thanks for sharing ♥♥♥♥♥

  7. Dear Patty you are a wonderful artist ,with your photoes, as well as your collaging and as I see here, ….baking too!! I love every photo here, with your gorgeous looking plums, and how you prepared your cake, which is looking so beautiful, after baking. We have no plum tree, in the garden, only apples , also very good for tortes , but surely not the same !!
Lovely poster from 1917, and alreadu back then they knew what was best !!!!

  12. Oh,oh dear Patty your photos make me hungry for cake. On the first I can see a German salt glazed bowl,is it from your mother? I love your blue apron with the nice motifs. Your cake looks yummy to me. A few weeks ago I baked a plum cake but with yeast dough. But it only tastes good if it is fresh. Your kind of cake can be eaten a week long.

  21. I enjoyed your showing us how you made the torte. It looks magnificent. I bet it tasted good, but I suspect it’s all gone now. I think my grandmother used to cook plums, and I think she made jam from them, but I’ve never made cooked plums. I do love plums, though, and the torte looks wonderful.

Enjoyed the coffee on the back porch, too. I can just see the two of you out there sipping and munching.

The 1917 FDA information is something everyone should know. We’ve certainly gotten away from that, especially when it comes to meat and wheat (GOODNESS, Kansas would go out of business without those two products). It’s too bad Kansas can’t grow fresh veggies, but it IS the wheat state, isn’t it? The idea of using what is left and not wasting ANYTHING really resonates with me, the Queen of Free.

Thanks for sharing your coffee, your torte, your lovely photos, and your fun recipe with us for T this Tuesday. BTW, it was still 80 F at 9 pm tonight. When will we get cooler temps? Glad you have cooled a bit.

  22. This cake sounds not only delicious, but beautiful to look at too. I especially love the image of the stones left so prettily on the plate! What a lovely dress too – the perfect background for those richly coloured plums. We have pears, greengages, apples and blackberries that grow in our garden and I love to cook with them. That they are only available for a short time makes them all the more special. xx

Oh yes, plum cake I love so much too- as well memories of my mother come immediately … Every year there was 1x hot Zwetschgen-Datschi with yeast dough and cream for lunch!
So funny, that you even photographed the core decorated in a star.

Here in sunny Florida it has not been so sunny – a lot of clouds and rain so no sitting out on the porch for me.
You really know how to set a stage and bring back olden days in the kitchen. I love your posts and your journal pages oh talented one!!
