lightly gessoed book pages sanding a bit around the image and adding heavy gel medium too (oops rereading what I wrote here and instead of heavy gel medium that should say SUPER HEAVY GESSO)…
finger painting with Quinacridone Gold and water with touches of Payne’s Grey and Titan Buff to mimic the coloring in my photograph…
this quote along with the photograph inspired my pages (I do most of my printing on the back of previously used paper)…
I really like how the paints interact with the gesso (I clapped the wet gessoed pages together and when they pulled apart it created nice texture)…
I had another chance to use Seth Apter’s new stamps for the perfect finishing touch for my pages…
his new Impression Obsession stamp line is featured as the New Product Editor’s Pick in the upcoming Nov/Dec issue of Somerset Studio (I chose unmounted and like them alot)…
I am joining Art Journal Journey again for this month’s ARCHITECTURE challenge…
Mr Magpie took a couple of photos during his work day in Washington, DC recently (he was working underneath the Channel 50 Cspan tower)…
he knows how much I enjoy street art and interesting architecture…
Really wonderful work, with great detail.

I am totally in love with this spread!! I love how you made it and when I enlarge the image I would love to go through that door right into this book and all the textures you achieved! Fantastic new stamps from Seth… would like to have them as well … but no more stamps for me… I have way to many already- I bought a bottle of fluid acrylic from Golden Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold this week ( very pricy …but what shall I do .. I had to have it and Green Gold as well!)
Thank you very much for this wonderful spread linked to our architectural theme ♥ liebe ♥ Patty and have a great weekend!
Super views from Washington DC., Mr.Magpie is the perfect photographer – isn’t he?!

Great to read about your paints and their colours, Quin. gold and especially Payne’s Grey are favourites of mine, and I’ve recently discovered the wonders of Titan Buff, but the way you use them is something else.
Tantalising to read about Seth’s stamps, I think each could be extremely useful in creating texture on a page, as you’ve done. Tempt, tempt.
You’ve made a beautiful painted arch with the echoing page.
Mr. Magpie is a treasure.

What a beautiful page. It has such depth, which is so appropriate to the quote. I really felt that I could walk up those steps and into my dreams. I also really love the texture you’ve created here. The colours add to the wonderful atmosphere of this spread. It’s a superb meditation on the role of architecture in our lives. xxx

Your archway reminds me of the Ringling Towers (which no longer exist) here in Sarasota. I was fortunate to be able to go in before the building was demolished and take some pictures. Thank you for bringing back the memory of that beautiful architecture. Mr. Magpie found some great things to shoot for you.

I was really impressed with the texture you got from the gesso, and the Quin gold is my favorite. In fact, I’ve gone through two bottles of it since I started using good paint. I really LOVE how you have shown each step you took because it makes it so interesting to see how your mind works.
I sure liked the photos Mr. M took, too. He has a great eye, and it’s good he had his camera at work.

This is lovely, Patty. I loved the mix of colors you used and the clamping together the pages and pulling apart is a wonderful trick I often forget to use! Thanks for the reminder. The photo is perfect — what an enigmatic page, really taking the imagination into wonderful roadtrips!

Beautiful pages dear Patty. I read with interest that you clapped the two gesso pages together, I love doing that but I do it when I gesso individual vintage book pages or watercolour paper, the texture is wonderful.
You brought such depth to the page, I felt as though I could step into the artwork and walk through the archway.
Mr Magpie is the sweetest of souls, taking photographs during his working day. What a beautiful gesture.
