anyone that knows me well knows how much I enjoy snow…
there is something about the purity and hush that freshly fallen snow brings turning everything sparkling white…
Winter Storm Jonas got lots of press before Friday when the snow and wind finally settled in for 36 continuous hours…
here near Dulles Airport we got 28.3 inches of light fluffy snow (Mr Magpie took the above photo which shows the heated birdbath resting on top of the wind blown snow)…
some fresh tulips were a necessary part of my blizzard preparedness…
it took Mr Magpie lots of time and patience to use his electric shovel to help carve a path from our back patio around the house to the front driveway…
I made sure he stayed well hydrated…
bringing him a snack or two as well…
snow is SO photogenic and appealing to me…
I could not resist taking oodles of photos…
it was fun playing in the snow with the traveling tea cup…
even the tulips ended up out in the snow for a bit…
I must confess I have been in a continual state of excitement since last week especially with words like “epic” “monumental” and “historical” being used to describe this storm…
it was one for the history books for our area…
the light and shadows are so beautiful with the snow and sunny skies…
we enjoyed the full moon from our back porch too (you can see it below at the top of the center photo)…
on Monday some energetic high schools boys helped dig us out further (BIG thanks to Isaiah and David who are two very cheerful and hard workers!!!)…
it will be a couple more days until schools and businesses and mail delivery are up and running again…

What a feast of photos. I love the snow too, as long as I don’t have to get to anywhere important. There is such a stillness and calm that settles over everywhere. Sounds like it’s going to have turned to rain by the time it reaches us.

Beautiful photos, I enjoyed them very much. I love snow too, when I can sit inside with a cuppa something hot and watch from the window. I really like the look of the yard ornaments with their blanket of snow.

Really beautiful photos Patty. They definitely show your love of the snow! I was thinking of you knowing you must have gotten A LOT your way too.Didn’t mind going in and out (mostly to continually shovel a path for Annie) during the blizzard, but the next day I really could have cried seeing so much of it, not being able to help shovel, and not knowing where it was going to go. Still digging out in our area too and not all roads are even open yet. Thankfully it’ll be a bit warmer and the sun should melt it a bit! I’ve been seeing all the photos of your big storm. I remember getting a storm like that in 1991…we got 28.1″ on Halloween. I remember a snow plow getting stuff on the hill of our street. My dad went up with the snowblower to help him out.
Nice of those boys to help dig you out. Mr G’s cousin lives near you and posted a cool timelapse video he took from their window of the storm. It was crazy watching the cars disappear as the snow kept falling.

your snow photos are spectacular – and fresh snow always has such an innocent look… but actually i don´t envy you for the real stuff around it (shoveling and all…). but what i really envy you of are the cardinals!!! i wish i would ever in my life see one.

Shadows and light – you certainly know how to capture them to their best advantage! So glad to hear you are enjoying the snowfall. I like snow best looking at it in pictures from where I sit in Florida. I’m afraid I would look like your planter in the final picture and be just as cold if I were there in person!

As expected, you got quite a lot of snow there! You seem to be enjoying it, though, and your photos are certainly beautiful. The moon and sunset are just gorgeous! We are forecast for rain late today and tonight, so it may wash away much of the snow for us….that, plus two days of 45 degree weather!

What an incredible post. When I finally got home, the monumental storm had passed, so I didn’t get to see it as it developed. Your photos show how excited you were to be able to be out in the snow. So glad Mr. Magpie didn’t have to work or be out in the mess as it developed. I heard on the radio that all of Washington DC was shut down (except for necessary personnel) as of noon on Friday. So glad he was able to be home with you and the photo of the wind swept yard is monumental. I heard the snow was quite fluffy and not one where you could easily have a snowball fight or make a snowman. That may be why that photo showing how the wind layered the snow was so special.
I loved what you did with the traveling tea cup and the tulips. Really vivid shots that showed so much color in an otherwise white and silent wonderland. Truly an impressive display with each vignette you shared.
Thanks for sharing these photos of the snow of the century, your traveling tea cup (which didn’t have to go far this time), Mr. M., the helpful boys who finished digging you out, and your beautiful tulips and other yard art with us for T this Tuesday. SO, so glad you are warm and safe, too.

Wonderful and amazing good photos you made my Dear. I love snow too and can’t stop watching how much snow you got. Jim had his special fitness training with the snow this time. Snow is so photogenic. I like your tulips int he snow very much. The lovely red cardinal bird looks so nice in the snow. I read that this bird only lives in America and Mexico. I would like to have this lovely bird in our garden.

Wow- you really did get a whole LOT of snow. I think if we didn’t get a lot of snow every winter I would be very excited too.(Sadly in New Hampshire we get snow and it never seems to go away-although so far this year we don’t have much so that is good! Life here hardly seems to stop when it snows!) I love all your photos-especially the tea ones! Those really made me smile. Your garden must be beautiful when it is green and blooming. Hugs-hope life gets back to normal soon.

Oh Patty, only you will put your beautiful pink tulips in the snow — and only for you will they not die within 30 seconds! Those photos are just fantastic, some of the loveliest I’ve seen. While despite my Michigan home I am no fan of snow (and big storms) I can’t deny the beauty of the freshly fallen snow, sun sparkling and a perfect blue sky. No one could capture it better!

Your photos are spectacular! And that’s just how I want to see snow…in a photo, on TV, or very far away! I grew up in central Illinois and we got quite a lot of snow. Now I live where a dusting occurs once every few years. I love the way you incorporated the T for Tuesday theme in your post.
