Autumn in Everything…

happy to have some time in the middle of our beautiful Indian Summer days here in Virginia to share two spreads that I created over the last couple of weeks…magpies-nest-autumn-grows-pages

these pages were inspired by an ad for a ballet performance that I clipped from The Washington Post and I just happened to have a stencil that I wanted to play with too…magpies-nest-patty-szymkowicz-autumn-grows

I liked these pages so much I did not want to cover them up but I eventually forged ahead and had fun adding gold paint along with the Robert Browning quote…magpies-nest-patty-szymkowicz-autumn-gold

now for something a little different… these green and gold pages were an attempt to step outside my comfort zone using colors and collage in a different way…

I am still not crazy about the end result but thought I’d share both spreads with you since I had Valerie’s Golden Autumn theme in mind for Art Journal Journey this month when I created them..

  1. Both spreads are beautiful, and well done on ‘breaking out’ and trying something new – your collage is beautiful. The pages with the ballerina are still my ‘golden’ favourite though! Thanks for joining us again at AJJ, hugs, Valerie

  3. Hello sweet friend!
The ballerina pages are amazing and the gold shines so bright between that blue colors. The background texture is fantastic. I love it much.
But your out of comfort zone pages are not less amazing, wow. I like the different pieces of green and yellow paper and paint with different textures. The eyecatcher are the the two round motifs. The page is Colin’s page. It remembers me on his time at the trail, with green woods and yellow fields, the map piece and the wind rose are also perfect to it. Bravo!

  4. I love them both for different reasons. The ballet is just magical — love that wispy, webby stencil look. And, it is such fun to see you step out of the zone — and of course you did it successfully!

  7. Your ballerina pages have so much life in them, they’re brilliant with the blues and golds and the way you make these pieces is so skilful.
Great fun to try different colour combinations and schemes. I wouldn’t have recognised this as a piece of yours, but that’s the whole point, isn’t it, with trying something new. I rather like it, it has a mysterious atmosphere as if something is going on in the depths, maybe a journey of some sort.

  9. I love your pretty ballerina, she looks so lovely in the gold ensemble you have created! I can see why your page was inspired by the wonderful clipping from The Washington Post – stunning image! The background is gorgeous with its beautiful colour layers, your stencil worked beautifully and all that gold – bravo! Your second page is so different, the colour combination reminds me of an Indian Summer days and makes me feel like I’m on a wonderful journey! Wishing you happiness and fun! J:-)

  11. Both of your pages are wonderful. I think you managed to make that second page work. I’m with you-they aren’t my first chose of colors but I do like the end result. I was playing around tonight and spent too much time on a page I don’t like. Now I am trying to have patience and forget about it because I may like it a little bit more tomorrow. Hope you are enjoying these Indian summer days. Hugs-Erika

  12. Oh Patty, I like both. I actually think I like the second spread better because it does seem to be different than colors I’m used to seeing from you.

Your art always inspires me, so these colors surprised (and pleased) me.

  19. Dear Patty, an amazing spread with your ballerina. It is just gorgeous, the way she flyes through the autumn sun and wonderful blue sky. I love your nature stencil ,wow, it looks fantastic, and I`m happy you did not cover the pages more.
Your new look, is truly something else, and as you know, I`m a rabbit like you, coming to use stronger colors, and this more synthetic Cubism in the form. Very exiting, but I have to admit I most love the Ballerina 🙂 XOxo
