Erika’s theme of TELL ME A STORY over at Art Journal Journey this month is wide open to interpretation…
back in 2009 I created a December art journal that is still fun to look through (my angel cover below)…
since then I have wanted to do a January art journal so here I go (this time I glued some pages together in an old book as I found working in a spiral book not that easy by the time I got to the end)…
as it happens my first January spread has a couple of kinds of tissue included which also fits the theme over at Try it on Tuesday…
I used Matte Medium to adhere the newspaper photo of trees to my painted pages and it worked nicely for the tissue papers too helping them melt into the surface…
everything has a story…

I love your frosty January pages, just beautiful, and of course, very much Patty.style. I am looking forward to seeing more of your altered January book! Thanks for joining us at TIOT and AJJ, Alles Liebe, Valerie

Great background Patty. When you use an old book do you have to remove some pages too, so it’s not so bulky?

Thanks Jo. This book is quite slim with less than 115 pages so it should be OK. I don’t mind if it puffs up a bit. For larger books you would probably need to remove some pages.

Such gorgeous pages. I agree spiral bound books can be problematic with some layouts. I had some similar tissue paper with spirals and stars – it looks so great and melts right in with the background.

Oh so beautiful a spread dear Patty, -the tree papers with the magic swirls of snow and the stars shining for the angels, to stay with us, and give us hope.
Your story gets wings ,in my mind, and make me poems on.
Wonderful how the angel tissue paper reveals the trees behind.
And the New Years eve bouquet is so wonderfully springlike, dearest friend, –makes me dream, even winter only just started here!!
Have fun with your new journal, I look forward following you on your journey through January.
Hugs, xx

I love how this came out Patty. Appropriate, but just beautiful. I think the black and white of the newspaper photo make a great contrast to the colored images, I hope we get to see more of this journal soon. Hugs-Erika

Wow, an art journal dedicated to January is quite the challenge. I enjoyed the look back, too. I’m hopeful for 2017, but when I turn on the news, all I hear is murder and politicians backstabbing each other. That’s why I have stopped watching the news. If nothing else, I feel it will be an excellent art year. You’ve certainly started out with a bang!

I’m glad you are doing this January journal. I’m not happy with this year’s December Journal (2016),,,, but, oh well. I do like just using binder clips and my own loose pages in my December journals so I can easily add Christmas cards in the back. Looking forward to your finished journal.
