one of the last home improvements we made recently was to have our trusty Norwegian cast iron wood stove removed along with the brick wall behind it (it has found a new home where it is being used and treasured anew)…magpies-nest-patty-szymkowicz-finished-fireplace

Mr Magpie chopped a lot of firewood in the 28 years we had the stove and now with gas logs we have simplified the getting warm and cozy process with the click of a remote control…magpies-nest-dining-room-buffet

  5. Your new fireplace looks like it’s been there forever and is so elegant! I’m sure your Mister will appreciate not having to chop lots of firewood anymore too 🙂 . Your spring flowers and decorations are adorable. I love the swan plate on the wall and the bird sat in the bowl on your sideboard, it looks like it’s taking a bath (grin!). The gift to your mother is so beautiful, the anemones are so colourful and cheery, my mum’s birthday is in March too and they are one of her favourite flowers 🙂 . It’s important to celebrate each moment and I’m glad all your construction has now finished and you have your things back in place. Enjoy your new cozy fire and wishing you a very Happy T Day! J 🙂

  11. WOW! what a transformation indeed! Beautiful new fireplace….and automatic too!! We have both a fireplace and a wood burning stove. Since the EPA has such harsh restrictions (here in CA) we rarely get to use the the stove. The dinning room table is in front of the never used fireplace these days. :((
I LOVE your antique buffet ….what a treasure that is.

  12. I am in awe of these changes. Not only does Mr. M not have to chop wood, you were able to get rid of your fire extinguisher. It’s a genuine beauty,

I also loved the altered door plate. It makes me want to create one, too.

That tea set is stunning. So glad you were able to keep it as one of the things from your mother’s home. It is incredible, and obviously worth a great deal of money, too. Very impressive set.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful updated room and awesome tea set with us for T this Tuesday.

  13. I so enjoyed seeing the changes you have been making to your home. Chopping wood is for the younger set and gas logs are wonderful. Great change. I have some of my Mother’s cup & saucer collection plus all the ones I received as shower gifts almost 58 years ago. I have been also buying them at the flea markets down here in Florida and had enough fo a tea I gave for a departing wonderful neighbor a few weeks ago. Everyone loved using them. Also your dolls with the tin skirts. How precious. Did you make them?

  18. A gas fireplace is really nice. Not only is yours. Beautiful but I bet you will enjoy lots of warmth at just a push of the button. 🤓 Love the tea cups. I have some of my grandmothers which are tucked away for now. Maybe it is time to bring them out. There is something luscious about those old bone China cups compared to the trusty mugs usually sold now. Hope you are having a great T day. Hugs. Erika

  21. Patty that was so nice of you to go to the trouble of looking this up for me and sending me the link. I was thinking of asking you for a better picture but hesitated and then your email came with the whole thing.

We are working on making stained glass wind chimes for our Garden Club walk and sale next October and I thought maybe I could make a few of these with little gardeners or garden fairies. If I do I will send you pics.

Thanks again. Bloggers are such great people.

  25. I do love a good wood fire as the warmth is just so different… but as I age it’s hard to do and I’d love to be able to switch over to a gas fireplace. We would have to have a propane tank set up as we are total electric here. Your new fireplace is beautiful and I love the rest of the house that you shared. Your elegant touches everywhere make it so lovely ♥♥♥♥

  30. Sorry for being late. Better late than never!
I love the transformation. The new gas stove is beautiful. We had a gas fire like that in the UK. Very cozy. But we also had central heating and the gas fire was just for snuggling up on cold evenings.
Here in Spain we have no other heating so our woodburner is having to heat the whole floor.
I enjoyed looking at all you lovely knick-knacks and cups. Beautiful.
    A belated happy T-Day,
