the Virginia Bluebell … Mertensia virginica

it is that time of year again when the forest floor of Bull Run Regional Park transforms into a blanket of blooms…

our first visit this year was perhaps a week ahead of peak bloom and VERY muddy (we always come prepared with a change of shoes… a little slipping and sliding is so worth it)…

I get excited each year and look forward to walking in the woods with our traveling tea cup along the looped Bluebell Trail…

I will leave you with a just a few photo collages and if you’d like to see more you can click here for past and much more colorful visits

we plan to return for an early morning walk when more blooms are open and the light is softer…

joining everyone at Bleubeard and Elizabeth’s to wish you a Happy T Day…

What a lovely breath of spring. You certainly know your wildflowers, Patty. I only know they’re very pretty 😉 A walk definitely worth some muddy shoes. The traveling tea cup makes me smile, especially when it’s so out of place as in this striking photo on the log.

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen

  19. I always LOVE it when you visit the bluebells. It’s the only time I’ve ever seen them because they don’t bloom here. In fact, I didn’t know anything about them until you shared photos of them a few years ago.

I also love it when you take the traveling tea cup on your visits. Gosh, you got LOADS of great shots and the tea cup came away being the star (model) of the show for once.

Thanks for taking us with you and for showcasing the traveling tea cup for T this Tuesday.

The travelling tea cup certainly has a good time, the luckiest tea cup ever.
I wonder if you have several of these cups or only one, you must have it very carefully packed if only one.

  27. I so love going for walks in the woods in the Spring. I was extremely excited to find Bluebells this year.. The first I’ve seen them here. But I’ve never spent much time in that part of our woods before because it was so over grown. Looking forward to going back out there this weekend and see what all has developed after all of this rain.

  29. Thank you for coming along Sheila. When we were clearing out my mother’s things I kept two tea cups and two saucers from a large dinner set. Thinking tea for two. Then in 2011 when the idea to bring “her” along with us on our travels came to me I was glad we have a spare cup and saucer just in case. We tuck it carefully inside a box that belonged to my sweet mother in law along with some bubble wrap.

  37. I love the bluebells. I started some here in the dunes..the heavy rains are squishing their faces in the mud as I type but I hope they seed and send out more bluebells. I hope they will hold each other up if I get enough of them going.
