junkles reveal

...where did December and January go…

thought you might like to see the rest of the junkle ornaments that came in from the Queen Bees swap around the holidays…

I had shown you Linda’s lovely altered tart tin ornament earlier…the shredded text is a perfect touch don’t you think…I really have a thing for bees and bee skeps too…

Nathalie transformed a vintage lightbulb into a twinkling beaded dangle…

great touches of tinsel and “snow” really make it sparkle…

Margaret used bits from an old/vintage bracelet…the silver burst is a bit from an ornament bauble…

other delicate treasures complete this lovely piece…

Carole layered fabric and paper to make a pretty “snippet roll” as she’s named it…held onto a wooden spool with a carpet tack…it unfurls to reveal lots of loveliness…

highlighted with her special stitching…you too can make a snippet roll…she shares how to here...

and here is my thimble bell birdie ornament again…made out of old garland…beads…bird and thimble with a little jingle bell hanging inside…

it is always fun to see where creative people go with a theme…this swap was a real delight and began with inspiration from here!

*Happy Chinese New Year…The Year of the Rabbit*

*Wishing you Sparkling Happiness and Good Fortune this New Year*

gothic arch pendant

it was my good fortune recently to be the lucky winner of a really gorgeous giveaway…

Lynn of Her Creative Spirit and Lynda of Diva Designs collaborated on this generous giveaway…Lynn offered her image for Lynda to create beautiful clay transfer pendants with…

it is stunning front and back…

Lynda will be having monthly giveaways…so be sure and check out her blog…you will be dazzled by her polymer clay and gemstone jewelry here as well

footnote: I have no idea WHY the font toward the end of this post is smaller? does not appear that way in my Edit Post version on my Dashboard??? I even tried retyping it…AND why is this footnote the proper size??? I seem to be having a tech challenged week on several fronts…my sewing machine is misbehaving too … boohoo!

thimble bells …

thimble bells…

thimble all the way…

the last swap of the season for me with my Queen Bee friends…

we challenged ourselves to use some junk or treasure and turn it into an ornament…

I was inspired by thimbles and little bells that I have had around for awhile…

I took apart a bird, bead and tinsel garland I bought some years ago…Mr Magpie drilled holes in the center of the thimbles as my attempt at doing it went cockeyed…I am more of a gluer than a driller I think…

the tiny round bells work perfectly inside the thimbles…they make a sweet tinkling sound…which brings to mind one of my favorite lines in Chris Van Allsburg’s book “The Polar Express

Hero boy says:

“At one time most of my friends could hear the bell, but as years passed it fell silent for all of them. Even Sarah found one Christmas that she could no longer hear its sweet sound. Though I’ve grown old the bell still rings for me, as it does for all who truly believe.”

it’s really fun hanging out with so many people here in blogland that believe and care about the spirit and heart of things

I was the lucky winner of gorgeous jewelry creations from Suz and Kat of Katsui Jewelry and Robin Thomas of A Nest With a View…they collaborated on a special giveaway with not one … but two wonderful prizes … be sure and visit their etsy shoppes … all full to the brim with hand crafted treasures…

Suz decorated the front and back of this pretty envelope for me…I was so excited when I picked up the mail at the neighbor’s that I opened the package there so they could see what was inside too…

a matched set of beauty…I could not believe my good fortune…

Robin created the beautiful double sided Peace pendant and special linen gift bag too…silver is definitely what I enjoy wearing …

Suz and Kat created the delicate earrings with Czech glass flower beads and pearls…they move sweetly as I am wearing them…Yes… I dressed up for tea today ;)…

such a treat and honor to be connected to so many talented and giving artists … most of whom I have not even met in person … I keep counting my lucky stars for so much shared goodness and creativity … it’s a beautiful thing …won’t you join Kimmie and the other Tea Tuesday bloggers for a cup of whatever delights you here…

be sure and visit Halle here … she is having a generous and fun no strings attached giveaway …

a Swan Dream…

the lovely and very talented Sue of My Arts Desire and I recently swapped altered kitchen size (approx 5″ x 2.75″) match boxes …

I was immediately charmed when this package arrived from Sue…

the layers of her Bobolink bird tag are so special…under the lovely lace she added a piece of river birch bark from a tree in her garden …soft like suede…

the unveiling was such a treat … look at the swan tape she used…need to find out more about that…

Sue is a master of wrapping and packaging … and a collector of the finest ingredients…vintage bits of this and that…trims all the way from India…

isn’t this exquisite … it takes my breath away … reminding me of a Fabergé creation with the crystals and rhinestones that she wove around the precious swan image…

BIG WOW…

I caught myself gasping at every turn … really…

the touch of turquoise millinery with a velvet leaf no less … silver heart … delicate clock face with three perfect touches of bling …

oohing and aahing…trying to remember to take photos along the way… precious ingredients…

no surface left unadorned …isn’t her handwriting pretty and special too…

and as if the gorgeous lined box was not enough … tucked inside were THE most wonderful things … I adore Forget-me-nots … see the button…vintage hat pins…pink paper roses that remind me of one of my favorite rosebushes…The Fairy Rose…along with more lovely trims from India…

Sue even sent me this gauzey bag with an amazing array of Indian postage stamps…goodies from India were mailed to her in that bag…now if that doesn’t stir your wanderlust…

but wait … there is more…don’t want you to miss a thing…

I have a confession to make…last year for my birthday Sue sent me THE most amazing big box of delights …a sweet surprise beyond my wildest dreams…I was feeling challenged keeping up during that time of year and never posted about it and really did want to share her thoughtfulness … I feel that one person’s kindness is a gift to many even if they are not the actual recipient … there are people we meet … be it a virtual connection …that have an impact… touching our lives … teaching us about goodness…generosity…kindness and caring … supporting and inspiring us all along the way with their creativity and grace …

sharing here with you all … is a way to pass these good feelings  along … thank you SO much dear Sue you inspire me again and again … I continue to be amazed at the beautiful bridge that blogging builds  oxo

Sue did a lovely post about our swap here…she’s a real doll

Queen Bee Stitchery Round Robin Reveal

it is finally time for more than a sneak peek at the stitcheries that have been popping up the last several months…

back in May some of my talented friends … the Queen Bees (QB5) … started a stitchery round robin … each of us did a bit on our own piece … me … not so much …

my TAP transfer lady … a favorite postcard image of mine … had humble beginnings on a scalloped and stained linen dinner napkin…with a an old doily behind her … a bit of hat netting along with a vintage flower  …

seems I stitched her on a bit cockeyed … more about that later …

time to send her off to her first destination … a visit with Nathalie in Missouri

just look at the delightful corner Nathalie filled with stitched goodness in gorgeous threads  … a sweet birdie singing “Tra la la” … “I SO needed to stitch today”… along with pretty tatted pieces too…

next stop with Linda in Texas … she stitched the lovely “breathe” … a swan … YES a swan … the pretty tea cup… “Tuesday Tea”and the plumed birdie on its lace perch … just found out Linda added the pearls around the center piece doily too… just perfect…

on to visit with Margaret in Switzerland…a precious pink seed bead and button heart stitched with “my heart’s desire” along with beautiful bits of lace and buttons and more lovely beads and special bits on the right side too…

last stop with Carole in New Zealand…who is celebrating her birthday this weekend … as she said … she crowned it with “lots of yoyo Love”… wee little yoyo’s made out of pretty flowered fabric … along with other special bits and layered goodness…

I am totally charmed and in awe of what was returned to me … beyond my wildest dreams…so worth waiting for these five months…

I got so excited when my stitchery arrived … I was inspired to stitch … to do something…

I decided to remove my lady transfer and add a piece of old pink hat netting behind her … giving me a chance to straighten her out a bit … funny enough … she is still not completely straight … she obviously has a mind of her own … which seems just perfect to me … I added a few other bits here and there including one of my wire birds nests …

found a bee bead while cleaning out a drawer … I had picked it up two years ago at a bead shoppe in Sebastopol and tucked it away … the perfect final touch…

after months of making her way around the globe … my lonely lady returned to me surrounded by Love … beauty …  kindness and thoughtful creativity … an absolute treasure!

WS: Turquoise

a favorite color of mine … Turquoise … is the Wednesday Stamper (WS) challenge theme for the next two weeks …

stores are already selling back to school supplies … so notebooks of all kinds are plentiful and well priced  …

my little altered notebook measures about 3.5 x 4.5 inches (8.89 x 11.43 cm) … I stamped and colored part of a cardboard coin holder to use as a frame … rubbing some off white paint onto the black German scrap trim helped soften it a bit … I had been waiting to use some of the dotted glass beads I picked up a while ago …

you can visit here to see lots of Turquoise creativity

Dress Up – July…Put on Your Party Dress

my dress this month is not at all what I had originally envisioned … stamped with three different rubber stamps

* someone said they had been looking for wire clip hangers … they can be found here *

ART Helps Me Breathe” is one of my all time favorite stamps …

the bling on the bodice is a clip on earring from my India collection box … I ordered the  little bells  here a while ago

part of me wants to edge the bodice with ink … might just leave it alone for now … enough fiddling already 😉

here are my dresses from January through June …

be sure and pop by Margaret’s blog this month to see the many imaginative and creative dresses from all over the globe

wonderful wool

my good friend, Michelle, and I got together recently to play with wool …

the idea of starting with nothing … well beautiful wool roving in this case … and ending up with something is always a thrill to me

I have been eager to learn some of what Michelle knows about creating free form objects … SO very nice of her to share

isn’t her bluebird a beautiful shape … she may add eyes or not

I also adore the polka dot pincushion she added to her basket girl … turns out we both have a little collection of these funky little girls with baskets

her pink  Jean style warm and fuzzy wool flower turned out great too!

above  is my first birdie … hearts are always a favorite of mine

later that evening I tried my hand at a tiny blackbird… that is an American quarter to the right to give you an idea of the size

and more hearts … as you can guess those are lots easier to make than a bird … for me at least 😉

some I decided to embellish with wire and beads … thanks to my sister, Joie, I have a great bead selection … she kindly passes along the ones she’s gotten tired of

the BEE embellishment is from a piece of cut and punched cutlery and was done before Mr Magpie injured his finger … he will be on light duty for a bit

the blue polka dot heart I finished last night is made of wool … alpaca and silk blended roving with wire pushed through the center … some beads and a leather necklace

MANY thanks to Michelle for sharing her wool know how … she certainly got me going!!!

and BIG thanks to everyone that inspires me each and every day … you know who you are! oxoxo

*****

be sure and pop by my talented Queen Bee friend Carole’s blog to see her video about the wonderful online journal class she will be offering … so much eye candy all described in her cute kiwi accent 😉

Bethesda’s loss … Frederick’s gain

hello … we’re off again

Mr Magpie and I are celebrating our anniversary this week

we took a little road trip to the historic town of Frederick, Maryland

just about an hours drive from home

many thanks to my friend, Carmen, for telling me about a wonderful and amazing shop there at 151 N Market Street

charming Andrew with his South African accent says hello Carmen

Accessories of Old moved from Bethesda to Frederick about five months ago

it is in a great location and full to the brim with treasures of all kinds

impossible to really do this shop of delights justice in a few photos … the button selection is WOW!

seeing so many vintage items in original packaging ... really cool packaging … is a rare treat

as Andrew says … once they’re gone, that’s it, they are gone

there is good news … if you can not visit the shop in Frederick … you can check them out on line

you’ll want to take some time to look into their great web page which offers some interesting behind the scenes information AND there is a lovely blog too … Andrew’s wife, Lisa, is very talented

as you can tell it was a lovely day to be out and about!

a little more about Frederick in a future post … thanks to Lynn Fox for telling me about the Community Bridge … also not to be missed
