What if I fall?

the last book in our local Mixed Media Collaborative art group‘s round robin has come my way and it is a real beauty touching my magpie heart…

Susan's bookmy friend Susan chose “Grow Wings” as the theme for her gorgeous book …

Magpie's Nest Patty Szymkowicz Grow Wings ideasI took my time gathering special bits of this and that trying out several layouts before actually gluing anything in place (I even hand dyed some vintage white flowers that in the end I did not use because they were too puffy)…

Magpie's Nest Waterhouse TAP transfer

a John William Waterhouse sketch looked nice transferred onto sheer vintage baby dress fabric and stitched onto the gold square background paper I selected (I used Lesley Riley’s TAP for both images in these pages)…

Magpie's Nest Pressed Thyme and Goldens Paint

before falling asleep one night I got the idea to use some of my favorite Goldens Gold Paint to “gild” some pressed thyme leaves…

Magpie's Nest Patty Szymkowicz What if I falleven though it was a bit fiddly brushing on the paint and then adhering them to the pages using Soft Gel Medium I was really pleased with the way they look…

Magpie's Nest What if you fly leftsome vintage embroidered sheer blue and green trim worked nicely on the piece of handmade paper Susan had added in her book … I highlighted the centers of the flowers by adding some gold paint…

Magpie's Nest What if you fly Swanpieces of plastered German lace curtain added texture to my pages as well…

Magpie's Nest What if you flyI am also joining Conny’s Mix it Monthly August/September challenge of Mixed Media Flowers

Magpie's Nest playing with plaster

Magpie's Nest Plastered Papers

using fabrics and doilies as stencils…

Magpie's Nest Plastered tissue and fabric

this little plastic one makes such a nice burst pattern and I especially like it on tissue paper or peeled napkin even (you know the white layer you don’t want to throw away when you’ve peeled your napkins)…

Magpie's Nest Plastered Red Rosin Paper

all of that fun then led me to create two more pages in my handmade red rosin paper art journal…

Magpie's Nest Daisies Art Journal Pages (1)

quite interesting to learn just how long daisies have been around and how artwork like ceramics actually helped piece together that bit of history…

Magpie's Nest Daisies Art Journal Pages (2)

Pressed flowers with tissue paper and glue

I didn’t let that stop me from my idea of creating another page for my loose leaf art journal…

Entranced by the moon collage

in fact I quite liked them and cut out the center of the hydrangea ring to create a frame for the lady’s face…

art journal page and collaged paperweight

stenciled plaster on tissue paper and some scraps of other papers along with a few words from a book page helped complete my collage page…Embroidered linen Noble Art quote

tea in a paper cup…

Tea cup planter

a paper cup would not really be my cup of choice and I can honestly say that the thought of drinking anything from a styrofoam cup makes my teeth hurt…

Rugosa rose garland

that said a nice mug or teacup where I can put my finger in the handle is something I do enjoy…

Natural Wonders single bloom flower press

I was delighted recently to rediscover a tea cup tablet with flowers embossed on the pages that I had tucked away…

Carol's Rose Garden notepad

so while I was filling my flower presses out on our back porch I thought I would snap a few photos for you  (the tea cup blends in  nicely with the white paper background)…

Queen Anne's Lace Fresh Collage

so until we get some real snowflakes I have been playing with Queen Anne’s Lace flower heads (also known as wild carrot) that I gathered last summer in a nearby meadow…

Queen Anne's Lace in book

pressed in my flower press and stored in a book to keep them nice and flat…

Queen Anne's Lace (3)

Queen Anne's Lace Laminating Machine

after sending them through the laminating machine I trim them with scissors and punch a hole to add a string or ribbon for hanging..

Queen Anne's Lace (5)

I did manage to make a handful of gelli monoprinted cards with “snowflake” ornaments for the holidays…

Snowflake quote

it is a perfect day to stay indoors and enjoy a hot cuppa…

pressed tea…

we have been enjoying perfect temperatures (low 80’s … around 26.6 celsius) with hardly any humidity and beautiful blue skies for a few weeks now…

sitting out on our back porch has been extra nice…

I could not resist these fresh cut blue hydrangeas at a local farmer’s market over the weekend as I do not have them growing in my Virginia garden…

wild chamomile blossoms I gathered on a walk were ready to come out of my flower press…

then I got busy filling it with snipped hydrangea blossoms that will be nice and flat and ready to use in collage in a couple of weeks…

our perfect weather is due to come to a crashing halt turning  intensely HOT and HUMID (forecast to feel as hot as 105 fahrenheit … 40.5 celsius) it certainly was pleasant while it lasted…

hot humid days are definitely not my cup of tea…
