tis the season tea…

below is a post I began drafting earlier last week with thoughts of sharing it for this Tea on Tuesday before Christmas…

even in light of Friday’s tragedy I thought I would go ahead and post it adding photos to it today

I am sure there are many people who struggle during the holidays as it is not always a jolly and fun time for everyone (little did I know when I wrote that sentence)

Something Creative Every DayI hope that your holidays are meaningful leading up to a great new year…

Twinkle collage

and that you *feel the twinkle* in this season of Love…

the quote I had selected earlier does not feel quite like it felt a week ago considering all those in horrific shock and pain … after 13 years of intense grief work the quote is meaningful to me … this is the second Christmas without my Mother and we have not quite settled into being orphans for the holidays

“Reflect upon your present blessings — of which every man has many — not on your past misfortunes,  of which all men have some.” ~Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

comfort and hope are a process…

Mercury glass Comfort and Hope

“grief is a house
where the chairs
have forgotten how to hold us
the mirrors how to reflect us
the walls how to contain us

grief is a house that disappears
each time someone knocks at the door
or rings the bell
a house that blows into the air
at the slightest gust
that buries itself deep in the ground
while everyone is sleeping

grief is a house where no one can protect you
where the younger sister
will grow older than the older one
where the doors
no longer let you in
or out”  ~Jandy Nelson, The Sky is Everywhere

Light a candle…

it’s that time of year again, the second Sunday in December, 7pm in your time zone to light a candle to honor all of the children who have died creating a wave of light in their memory…

1 Light a Candle 2

more information here

this will be the thirteenth year that we have participated in this worldwide candle lighting in memory of our precious son Alex

and thank you to my sweet friend Jean for a special candle that has this quote on it: “There are some who bring a light So great to the world that even after they have Gone, the light remains”

…with a little help from my friends

still in a bit of limbo with the healing of my second eye as it got scratched in surgery and is taking extra time to mend…

I am relearning how to see in new ways as most of my life I have not needed glasses for close up and now I am struggling to see things close up…

take a peek here to see how friends like Jean are cleverly coping with vision issues and doing fantastic detailed work…

all anyone told me about cataract surgery is how wonderful it would be and there would be LOTS of eye drops…

a lot of my life revolves around details with close up and personal views of things…

maybe I am being hasty (and a little impatient) since my final eye exam won’t be until mid June…

I AM enjoying the brighter distance vision very much and not needing glasses for far away…

all that said it was high time to get busy and PLAY however I could manage to make that happen…

sparked by the generous Retro Cafe Art Gallery FREEBIE collage sheet along with their challenge of using the collage sheet to create something in any medium by 1 June…

there is even a generous prize with a chance to win a $25 Retro Art Cafe Gift Certificate …

with thanks to my talented and sweet art and collage sister in Poland for suggesting recently that I needed to collage this childhood image of me…

Mr Magpie was able to print it from a strip of negatives rescued from my parents home…

what a fun surprise just before Mother’s Day…

if we can get that scanner feature to work again who knows what other photos my father took…

thank you also to the always thoughtful and generous Pat for sending this old day book to me (each page measures 8 x 10 inches … 20.32 x 25.4 cm) perfect as a new art journal…

one of the reasons Pat shared the day book with me was because of the quotes scattered through it…

I am thinking this new art journal will be a fun place to reconnect with my inner child…

thank you to all of my friends for always encouraging and supporting me OXOXO

Lily of the Valley Tea…

our “May Bells” are blooming…

one of the distinct pleasures of having a garden is the arrival of plants that only do their thing once a year…

I have sweet memories of when I was a girl living in Germany…

we would take Sunday drives out into the countryside…

once we saw ladies coming out of the forest with big bunches of Maiglöckchen

my Mutti had stories to share about that…

Earl Grey tea tastes especially good in the pretty tea cup we inherited from Mr Magpie’s sweet mother…

it is one of a couple that we got from her beautiful collection…

and we treasure it…

here’s wishing you a Happy last Tea on Tuesday for this month of April…

*footnote for Thursday…I am also joining in Tea Cup Tuesday over at Terri’s Artful Affirmations

canvas play…

our son is making progress after his injury but the road to full recovery will take some time…

as far as me being creative I am lucky to snap a few photographs in the garden now and then with not much time for play…

a few months ago I had a great time creating textured backgrounds on three different canvases with no idea of where they might go next…

the canvas above measures 9×12 inch…22.86×30.48 cm

I only have the one “before” photograph above and that canvas is still waiting to be completed…

when we came home from our latest travels I was itching to create something so I got busy on the two 6×12 inch (15.24 x 30.48 cm) canvases…

I hardly create anything without an image or face on it so that is what I decided these two canvases needed along with more texture and interest…

for this one I used the original image (what was left after I transferred onto tissue paper)  using the Citra Solv paper transfer technique

the wings are from my Old San Juan treasure finds

glued on using gel medium…

my favorite adhesive…

for my “Blessings” canvas below I glued on a laser jet lady image adding bits of German sheer curtain and vintage flowers from an old hat…

I stamped “Blessings” onto dress pattern tissue paper adhering it to the canvas with gel medium…

I really liked the idea of having backgrounds ready and waiting for the next time I have time to play…

Spring Tea…

here in Virginia the season of renewal has returned…

tender green is showing on the Weeping Willows once again…

the birds

are singing

and splashing around

as

colors return

to the landscape…

it feels like March pretending to be May…

hope you are enjoying whatever season you are in and that you have a very Happy Tea on Tuesday

special hugs and a quote for so many friends that are going through hard times just now…
