Category Archives: Mixed Media Monday (MMM)

my final piece did not take long to create … it was the idea that took some time and pondering…

while looking through a button tin I came upon this small (1.5 x 1 inches) metal shrine charm with a glass window…

perfect for my Picture Show (St Paul, MN) woman bound stamp … I cut the word “imagination” out of the Tim Holtz tissue tape…

the piece of red sari ribbon from Sharon was the perfect finish…

my little shrine charm is for two challenges: Wednesday Stamper’s Glass challenge and Mixed Media Monday’s (MMM) Shrine challenge¬† … I am hoping to be able to play along with MMM more often now that they have shifted to a monthly schedule

MMM: Leftovers

it has been way too long since I’ve played in the Mixed Media Monday (MMM) challenges … the theme this week is “Leftovers”

my little 2×4″ canvas has the inside of an envelope for the background … a cutout from a Jagermeister label (good for the digestion you know… they still use the nice glue where the labels float off in water too) … the words “Sip ‘n’ Nibble” are from a cigar box I have full of pages from books to use for text … I especially like the Large Print books for a change of font … while it is easy to print any text out on the computer … I enjoy letting words find me when I open the cigar box ;

every little thing

it all began with Julie’s monoprinting workshop lesson

using Alicia’s Altered Bits image in the upper left hand corner

I doodled (purple Sharpie and White Signo Gel Pen) and stamped and even got to use some of our “found” paper Carmen … Love those holey strips

I had a piece of purple plastic netting that slipped over the page perfectly …¬† may still tuck something under it on the bottom of the right hand page

I am submitting this for the Mixed Media Monday “pink” challenge in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month

there is still time to join in Monica Magness’ amazing Pink Artist fund raiser here

have I mentioned there are fantastic prizes … be sure and check out the prize wheel!

MMM + TGiF No. 105

the MMM challenge is “meaningful music” … the TGIF challenge¬† this week is “the color white”

White*click for a closeup*

I created¬† fabric paper for the postcard background adding the blackbird image on some white sheer rice paper … touching up with a dry paint brush and white acrylic paint

this Beatles song has always been a favorite of mine … I am often inspired by music

I used a cabinet card image along with a postcard for my altered CD

Charming Junk: Peace Be With You

what some people see as junk…… I see as charming

many thanks to Rosie for getting me going with her “charming junk” challenge for MMM this week

Before*click for before*

I have a few of these funky souvenir plates, not meant for food,¬† just decoration…at less than a dollar each….how could I resist!

After*click for after*

I used a piece of junk paper that I use to protect my work table.  I have figured out why I like using these papers that catch ink, paint and stamping when I am creating.  There is also glue on the paper which offers a perfect resist and adds texture to your paper

Using one of my FREEBIE stone angels, I stamped, inked and highlighted with Signo White Gel Pen (I will add a few more white highlights, it takes patience and I got excited to post this) along with gold Krylon pen

gel medium worked well for gluing my collage to the china plate

MMM: Play

“Play” is the theme at Mixed Media Monday.¬† If you read my quote on my blog header, you’ll see that I value play very much!

for some time now I have wanted to play with some cardboard fans that I have collected, some old and some new, unique ways of advertising

this one was passed out at our son’s college orientation a couple of summers ago and was it ever hot moving him into a dorm with no air conditioning

Mont St Michel

I decided to collage on the back/blank side of the fan covering it with scrapbook paper to begin with, sanding the edges a bit, adding Brilliance ink to the edges.

The image of Mont Saint Michel is from an old encyclopedia (I actually used the original).¬† I was lucky enough to visit there many years ago and stay overnight which was a special treat.¬† It’s one of those places where busloads of visitors come to spend a few hours then leaving to continue their sight seeing.¬† I would so Love to return someday and have some delicious crepes!¬† Back in the day, I sort of ate my way through a nine week, nine country trek of Europe…those were the days!

Thanks again to Jean for the perfect swan page she sent me a while back.  I am not using that original, but copies instead!

door to your dreams

“Doors” is The Three Muses challenge, I did not want to miss playing along

I am also offering this collaged postcard for the MMM “make a piece of art that tells a story” challenge

doors seem to have stories to tell, making us wonder what is on the other side…..the image of the knight and his little one is by Eleanor Fortescue Brickdale

this song by “Cat Stevens”

helps tell some of the story behind my postcard

MMM: Anchor Line

It is my pleasure to be the guest designer for Mixed Media Monday this week.¬† I chose¬† “Numbers” as the challenge theme.¬† I enjoy using numbers in artwork; they play a part¬† in my daily life as well.

Numbers 15 Jun 09

I began my 8 x 10 inch (20,32 x 25,4 cm) collaged canvas by laying down various bits of papers which were handy on my work table.¬† Then I adhered¬† layers of peeled tissue and napkins on top using Golden’s Fluid Matte Medium.

The number stamp is from Ma Vinci’s Reliquary.¬† The image was one that I picked up at a junk shoppe, I had been waiting for a special occasion to use it!

As Time Goes By

Lace is the theme at Mixed Media Monday this week

I like using the small sticker size Xyron, it works like a charm adding adhesive to lace

I enjoy painting on lace too, but in this instance, natural seemed to work just fine

I created a postcard using paints, book text, a thin coat of Ranger Distress crackle paint,  flowers and leaves cut from decorative paper, a little stamping along with a used postage stamp

the image is of Miss Maud Fealy, for a  finishing touch I added delicate quarter inch lace at the top and bottom

*click the pics if you would like a closer look*

the challenge at Mixed Media Monday is “Layers”

I created a little¬† 3×5 inch canvas

using various papers, inks, paints, gesso pounced through star sequin waste and dry wall fabric mesh

it is a matter of growth, deepening,
and of an ever greater surrender
to the creative action of love
and grace in our hearts.”

Play In The Sun

Altered People is the theme at Mixed Media Monday this week.¬† I altered a Paper Whimsy image using a favorite vegetable of mine.¬† Eierfrucht*berenjena*melanzana*aubergine*oberŇľynowy*berinjela

Eggplant blossoms are so beautiful and the eggplant itself is delicious.  Here is my Miss Aubergine postcard which began with a shaving cream background.

Using an inspirational word is the Mixed Media Monday challenge this week

Working a little larger than I usually do, I randomly glued torn bits of all sorts of papers onto a 9 x 12 inch canvas, adding paint, stamping ink and gesso
