♥Blessings to Mothers Everywhere♥

“Mothers hold their children’s hands for a short while, but their hearts forever.” -Unknown

Happy Mother's Day 2013Mom turned backwards is still MOM…

Mom flipped upside down is WOW…

Without mothers, our society would be doomed …

OXO

a mother’s blessing…

if you are lucky enough to still have your Mother here with you…

you have the chance to tell her again how much she means to you…

as we know all too well

life can change in a heartbeat…

Mr Magpie and I certainly are grateful to have had our precious Mothers and Grandmothers in our lives for a long as we did…

“The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.” ~Honore de Balzac

and one more quote because my mother in law and Mutti both had a great sense of humor…

“A Freudian slip is when you say one thing but mean your mother.”  ~Author Unknown

this was a pre scheduled post as I am recuperating from my second eye surgery…I am looking forward to getting around to visiting everyone as soon as my vision clears up oxo

in the blink of an eye…

…everything can change…

my sweet Mutti left this world on Tuesday…

8 February…

she went to sleep and never woke up…

not easy to type these words…

even though her passing was sudden…

we are comforted that she did not suffer and that she died in her own comfortable surroundings…

tell someone you Love them…

you never know when it may be the last time they get to hear those words…oxoxo

“And that is dying

By ~Henry Scott Holland

I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a
speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle
with each other.
Then someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!"
"Gone where?"
gone from my sight.  That is all.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.
And just at the moment when someone at my side says:
"There, she is gone!"
There are other eyes watching her coming,
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout:
"Here she comes!"
And that is dying."

Tea in Paris

Paris … Virginia … that is

I am sure I have mentioned before how much we enjoy heading for the hills

leaving some of the congestion of the metropolitan area behind is always a refreshing treat …only about an hours drive away

tea with Mr Magpie turned out to be hibiscus infused champagne … those blossoms were scrumptious

The Ashby Inn has a view of the gardens and surrounding hills from the veranda

a tiny hamlet with about fifty or so inhabitants …

two short streets … one church … the inn  … and an antique shop … no coffee shop or grocery store

charming and peaceful

the food was wonderful … we had to try hard and ignore a couple of tables with people talking on their yell phones … that seems to be a growing problem in public places … we lingered almost two hours in spite of the on and off annoyance

there was even a house for sale

a tempting thought to leave suburban life behind

thanks as always for stopping by for T … you can visit Kimmie at Art in Red Wagons for a complete list of T blog stops again this week

Moments like these …

with Love and gratitude to the sweet lady with the wicker pram

… my beautiful Mutti …

a young thing in Feldkirchen, Germany … some years ago now

that is me …  tucked into the carriage for what looks like a nice long ride 😉

becoming a mother myself has been a true adventure of the heart… helping me understand my parents a little better

… our three boys are such a gift …

there was a time when I wondered how my broken heart could go on beating

there are no words to truly express my deep deep gratitude for each and every moment I have had with each of our boys

when you are in the middle of raising young children it can seem so intense and all consuming … then before you know it those days are behind you … had I known how quickly it would all go … I would have definitely kept better notes 🙂

~* Mother’s Day Blessings to mothers both present and absent *~

warmest wishes to all

footnote: we are headed over the river (Potomac) and through the woods for a very special visit with my Mutti

Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn,
Hundreds of bees in the purple clover,
Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn,
But only one mother the wide world over.
~George Cooper

*Footnote: I am submitting this post for Ana’s Friday Archive Dive theme of Mom little did I know that this would be my last Mother’s Day with my precious Mom…life is so fragile…so sweet and so mysterious…*

“It is not only fine feathers that make fine birds”~Aesop

my art friend, Dot, is very talented and industrious … it seems there is nothing she won’t try … she and I connected almost immediately … as time went on we realized we had quite a lot in common

Dot has hens and chicks …  a goodly number … I Love feathers

Photograph by Dot Ferrero

she surprised me with an envelope full of gorgeous feathers … such a fine variety … impossible to pick one favorite

the first thing I smelled when opening the package was lavender … which just happens to be one of my favorite scents

… she is a nature Lover and a gardener too …

an extra special gift was a pheasant feather that her son, Bruce, had given her 32  years ago

I was so touched and honored to receive it … you see Dot and I found out another thing we have in common … we have both lost sons … Dot’s Bruce was buried at sea … our Alex was killed one month before his 17th birthday … no wonder we connected so effortlessly

thanks again Dot … thinking of you this Mother’s Day and always

“Hope is the thing with feathers, that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without words, and never stops at all.” ~Emily Dickinson

speaking of feathers … have you checked on Molly and her owlets lately … my they have grown  … four young ones with wispy white feathers … heart shaped faces with huge beaks … swaying and doing their yoga stretches … in the next week or so the first young one should be ready for a test flight

here is a special song I’d like to share with you oxo

an early Mother’s Day Gift

what a week of wonderful surprises this has been, just had to share this with you as well

from a scanned copy of a 4 x 6 inch photograph of our son Alex as a young boy, Contrado Imaging created this fantastic 12 x 16 inch printed canvas

*photos are all clickable for a closer view*

DSC00646

the original  photograph was taken on Thanksgiving in 1989 on our then annual trek to the mountains

that particular year we woke up to snow which was a big thrill for our boys and for us too as it was not the norm for November

DSC00647

in addition to the fine quality of the printed canvas, it is stretched over a really nice wooden frame…. the print wraps around the one inch deep sides too!

DSC00659

it’s personalized with Alex’  name on the back edge, ready to hang as is or we can use the picture hanger that was included with the canvas

imagine a piece of your artwork done up as a canvas print, there are lots of other items to choose from as well (bags, blankets, aprons, photo cubes, cushions, calendars, duvet covers and more) , all using digital photographs….be sure and visit here to check it out

another thing well worth mentioning about this company is their shipping!

VERY speedy and efficient… unbelievably quick!

there is a new category on my sidebar, scroll down for  GIFT IDEAS

I can listen to this song again and again

Sunday Postcard Art: Mothers

After a lovely visit with my Mutti to celebrate her birthday, we took time to look through some old photos….such a lot of fun that was.

mother

Here she is (sweet young thing) holding me as a wee one……. a perfect photo to alter  for the SPA “Mothers” challenge

The pointing hand is from Above the Mark’s Free Vintage Images; lots of  inspiration there and other great stuff too!

“The sweetest sounds to mortals given
Are heard in Mother, Home, and Heaven.”
~William Goldsmith Brown

We laughed, we sang (remember this one), enjoying each moment!
