tea and friendship in my garden…

Organic India is a favorite tea company of ours for lots of reasons… in each box of tea they include a little product booklet which I always feel a bit bad about chucking into the recycle bin when the box is empty…Organic India info

so I decided to create a small journal by gluing some pages together…Patty Szymkowicz Tea & Friendship gesso

and adding some heavy gesso to help give the slippery pages some tooth…Magpie's Nest tea journal side view

with no real plan other than a focus on tea and friendship…

Magpie's Nest T Journal 1&2

for the first pages I used a scrap of Neal’s Yard tissue paper from our 2013 trip to the UK along with a piece of security envelope… one of my favorite swans and some star tissue…

Blessings on the breeze …

our local Mixed Media Collaborative arts group exchanged prayer flags at a recent meeting

Magpie's Nest Prayer Flags (2)

several of us were inspired to use some of our handmade fabrics from previous gelli monoprinting sessions we had together…

Magpie's Nest Prayer Flags (3)

the only guidelines for the swap were to make our flags approximately 5 x 8 inches with a 3 inch or so sleeve for stringing (for my flags above I used monoprinted cotton, bits of lace, ribbons and trim, buttons, beads, charms, some funky old plastic flowers and bits of paper, needle, thread and even some glue)…

I hope you can feel the blessings and good wishes wafting their way out into the universe from our creations…

“Moonlight and Laughter” friends…fibers and more

all thanks to Susan of Rosie Inspirations for getting me back into needle felting AND to my friend, Marilla, who has an online shop where she sells the most gorgeous hand dyed fibers and yarn…

I was really intrigued by her Hand Dyed Milk Fibers (top left)…

here is what she says about them in her Moonlight and Laughter etsy shop :

“Milk fiber is made from casein, which is a milk protein. It is extremely soft and silky. It also has wicking properties similar to wool, so is great for socks and summer garments.”

SO soft and silky I just had to use some on my latest felted journal cover

and on some ATCs

with another chance to use some of the wire bird nests I made so many of a while ago…

Marilla’s Angelina Fibers help add that certain something…

some of you may know that I resisted joining Facebook for a long long time…

finally at the end of last year I caved and signed up…

one of the brilliant outcomes of that was reconnecting with my dear friend Marilla…

we met many many years ago and formed a deep bond…

my long lost special BFF was found again…

here’s to old friends and new friends…

Gratitude for Thanksgiving and Always…

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.

It turns what we have into enough,

and more.

It turns denial into acceptance,

chaos to order,

confusion to clarity.

It can turn a meal into a feast,

a house into a home,

a stranger into a friend.

Gratitude makes sense of our past,

brings peace for today,

and creates a vision for tomorrow.” ~ Melody Beattie

wishing you days filled with gratitude and thanksgiving always…

I am very grateful for each of you OXO

9.11.11 A Day of Remembrance

hopefully this month’s quote from my “Angel Spirits” The Art of Sulamith Wülfing 2011 Calendar will bring a little comfort on a day where the right words are not easy to find…

a day even harder than every other for anyone that lost a loved one ten years ago…

“When you feel the need to unburden your spirit, know that I am always with you, dear friend.  I am the recipient of all your secrets, and I hold them fast in the chambers of my faithful heart.  Confide in me, and receive in return comfort and tender love.” ~Soul Confidant, September 2011

I have shared the quotes from this beautiful and inspiring calender here each month and thought I would show you Sulamith Wülfing‘s artwork for this month as well…

she was an amazing artist…
