pulled by the stars…

magpies-nest-patty-szymkowicz-simplicity-backgroundmy pages were inspired by Tamara Laporte and her first lesson on Life Book 2017magpies-nest-patty-szymkowicz-simplicity-colored-pages

this is my first time joining in this popular online course and it is already wonderful (when I saw that one of my favorite artists and teachers, Misty Mawn , was teaching that sealed the deal for me)…magpies-nest-patty-szymkowicz-simplicity-gesso-layer

using colors I don’t often use was a good exercise but my background pages sat for awhile until the other bits presented themselves…magpies-nest-patty-szymkowicz-girls-with-stars-in-her-hair

then the girl sat waiting on the left hand page without stars or words until the perfect quote found me (forgot to get a photo of her unadorned)…magpies-nest-patty-szymkowicz-simplicity-heart

I knew I wanted to use my word for the year on the right hand page along with the Paper Parachute stars that I stamped on tissue paper…

I spent a good bit of time gluing the tiny stars down with Matte Medium which was fiddly but fun…magpies-nest-patty-szymkowicz-left-hand-page

Magpie's Nest Patty Szymkowicz Dreams Heart

I had printed out two of my altered images using the smaller one in another of my art journals here… this version worked out nicely for these book pages …

winds of change…

a stack of my CitraSolv papers have been waiting for attention for quite some time now…

Winds of Change Art Journal Pages

I decided to use a copy of the 1984 National Geographic page that had a windmill image still showing in the upper right hand corner for the last two pages in my spiral art journal (thanks to Mr Magpie for helping me find the words to add to my pages)…

Winds of Change Art Journal Pages (1)

Note to self for future reference: spiral bindings are okay to work in because the book goes flat BUT NOT great for turning the pages afterwards…

Winds of change supplies

I enjoyed a good bit of silence while making marks on these pages picking up my book again and again so I am entering these pages in Art Journal Journey’s SILENCE theme here

since my photos can be clicked and enlarged again thanks to Estivalia I wanted to offer a FREE DOWNLOAD of my CitraSolv page below for you to play with…

Mandala Monday: give me five

while our purple passion flower vine is in between blooms our more established vine is producing like crazy…

Passion Flower on Black Velvet BackgroundI still cannot help but marvel at each and every one of the amazing flowers…

Passion Flower Center

striking on their own and a perfect center for my mandala today…

Liatris Passion Flower Mandala

the birds enjoy eating the pretty Pokeberries that pop up in a corner of our garden leaving behind perfect plastic looking daisy shapes or pedicels as I found out they were called when I looked it up:

“A shiny dark purple berry held in racemous clusters on pink pedicels with a pink peduncle. Pedicles without berries have a distinctive rounded five part calyx. Fruits are round with a flat indented top and bottom. Immature berries are green, turning white and then blackish purple”

peduncle is a fun word don’t you think 🙂

Liatris Passion Flower Mandala (1)

the brilliant bluish purple blooms are fallen blossoms from our Salvia plant along with spent Passion flower blooms…

have to tell you about the blast from the past VERY olive green enamel tray I arranged my mandala on…

it came with a set of enamel pots and pans long long ago as the tray for a matching fondue pot which we still have and use for cheese fondue every now and again…

Liatris Passion Flower Mandala (2)

our past bloom Liatris flopped over after a rain so I used some of those to make the five point star which set the pattern for my mandala (no pre planning  just letting what presents itself in our garden lead me)
