freedom square…

the August challenge over at Art Journal Journey (AJJ) is QUADRAT / SQUARE

“inchies” (1×1 inch squares) immediately came to mind along with this collage I had made on a piece of scrapbook paper way back when...

Scrapbook page of Inchies

I printed the sheet and cut rows to create a border…

reduced inchie border

reducing the size a bit to better fit my 5.50 x 6.25 inch (13.97 x 15.87 cm)  spiral journal pages…

Twinchies and altered tin

next I checked a tin I altered awhile ago which holds twinchies (2×2 inch collage squares) I had made...

Freedom She Whispered (1)

I found two that spoke to me so I glued them onto cut squares of map paper…

Freedom She Whispered

I really enjoy starting with blank pages letting them evolve without much planning (Paper Whimsy girls are always irresistible)…

Paper Stacks a Plenty…another Seth Apter Collaboration

Seth of The Altered Page is at it again …

ever the master of art collaborations he put out a call to post photos showing our stacked journals

… papers

… handmade books and more …

the bigger the pile the better…

I must admit the pictures above show just some of my creations…

in talking to Mr Magpie about paper stacks…

he took a few paper photos too…

it seems piles of paper play a big role in our lives…

the other evening we rescued the paper bits below after having a bite to eat

we found we only needed half of the heavy duty paper napkins provided and the paper doilies are always too good to pass up… a wonderful collage ingredient

many thanks to Seth as always for joining the on line mixed media art community together…

I am looking forward to visiting all of the Paper Stack Project participants linked on Seth’s blog here

…95 participants and counting…

ABAA: Twinkling Twinchies

my twinchie for the ABAA challenge began with these child’s cardboard game pieces which just happen to measure 2 x2 inches

I was then inspired by some new (to me) Ferrero Rocher  chocolates with beautiful and different foil … Yum!!!

I sandwiched two of the game pieces together…using the brown and gold foil papers along with some wired starburst that I have had for some time now…the icon image is from an Altered Bits collage sheet (Alicia is having a buy 2 get one free sale)

I would like to try these using some brighter color foils too … seems more chocolate is in order 🙂

Paris

“Paris” (such a magical city) is the theme over at Small World of Inchies and Twinchies.  I could not believe I spent about 40 minutes fiddling with this little two inch square (Usually I don’t know how long a piece takes).  I ended up with several gessoed twinchies ready for another time….gesso is the great fixer!   Each tiny flower and leaf was hand cut and glued in place.

I decided to finally use one of my Eiffel Tower stamps

Back in the day,  I was lucky enough to spend nine fantastic days in Paris. When it was time to leave, I was so glad it started raining, it made it just a tiny bit easier to say au revoir.

Twinchies * Nickelbacks * Five Cent Pieces

In my excitement to get some swaps taken care of before we go away on vacation, I made these twinchies for a local swap in October. I failed to notice that this particular swap had a “Fall” theme..….so much for getting ahead….oh well, can one have too many twinchies, or as my blogging friend Kimmie calls them “nickelbacks” or “five-cent pieces”. That name comes from across the pond, where they measure 5 centimeters square.

This batch all used sweet Paper Whimsy girls. Some of the backgrounds are pieces of paper from the papers I use to protect my work surface. The papers get full of ink, paint, stamped images, glue and more. The spots where I’ve tried to prime my gold krylon pen always add interest as well. There comes a point where these under papers need changing and I always look at them and think they are too good to throw away.

Back to the drawing board on creating more twinchies, this time with a Fall theme.

Being delirious with joy = WOW!
