I knew I wanted to use my word for the year on the right hand page along with the Paper Parachute stars that I stamped on tissue paper…

shine…

one of our FULL CIRCLE  workshop assignments this week was creating a lantern…

Painted Lantern Pieces

it never ceases to give me a thrill starting with simple things like cracker box cardboard…paints…

Lantern sides

snippets of paper…string and a bit of parking lot treasure that Mr Magpie rescued for me (flat lace like charm in the center)…

Illuniated Lantern

with the guidance and generous directions from our talented teacher Misty Mawn

Twinkling Lantern

I was also delighted with this project as it fits so nicely with my little word of the year here

Light tea…

the sun in winter shines differently casting another kind of light and shadow on things…

Heart rocks and card from Mr Magpie

for a time in the afternoon it can act like a spotlight on dust so I try and enjoy when the light shines in a more favorable fashion…

Winter sun sparkling on glass knob

like just before the sun sets and how it illuminates the glass crystal knob on a bird house on our windowsill sending a burst of light rays all around it…

winter sunshine kitchen window

we get bright afternoon sun on the front of our house that streams in the kitchen window…

I am enjoying some homemade Yogi tea in a pretty blue three legged pottery mug that we picked up in Baltimore at The Women’s Industrial Exchange which has a rich history dating back to 1880…

joining Elizabeth and Bleubeard today for T and wishing you a lovely day with thanks to Cynnie for letting me share this great quote which goes perfectly with my word AND hers for this year 🙂

Light…

not being one to make New Year’s resolutions per se I rather like the idea which seems to be growing in popularity to pick one word for the year…

I like words…

here are a few of mine from years gone by…

2013-word-of-the-year-stretch-a1

Balance

2012 balance-rock-altered

Authentic

2011 Authentic (1)

and this year I chose LIGHT

2014 Pattys Word for LIGHT

I added the word LIGHT to one of my painted book background’s using Pixlr Express

 Merry and Light

Light(ness) of being…

Light at the end of the tunnel…

Light load…

Light years…

Light and breezy…

let there be Light

I could go on…

“Light gives of itself freely, filling all available space.  It does not seek anything in return; it asks not whether you are friend or foe.  It gives of itself and is not thereby diminished.”   ~Michael Strassfeld

speaking of special Light

once again I must thank my brilliant and generous blog friend Estivalia of “365 Drawings Project” for solving a problem that has vexed me for some months now…

without me changing anything WordPress no longer allowed photos to be clicked for a closer view and for the life of me I could not figure out what to do to get it working again…

Estivalia offered to help me out and in her concise and amazing fashion (with visuals no less!) she made it clear and easy as to what I could try to fix the problem AND it worked like a charm…

Thank you so very much dear Estivalia for coming to my rescue again and again…

You are amazing and are such a beautiful Light ♥

~* Peace … L♥ve and Light to all *~

STRETCH in 2013 …

new year’s resolutions are not something I really get into but I have chosen a word for the last several years…

in 2011 my word was AUTHENTIC and

in 2012 I chose BALANCE

Balance Rock altered

I could easily have had that as my word again this year but I decided to go with

2013 Word of the Year STRETCH A

(most of the heart rocks are from my Mr Magpie who knows I enjoy a pretty rock as much as a bouquet of flowers)

a reminder to stretch my spiritual body…

 my physical body…

and

to continue stretching my wings trying new things

Swan Wings from Susan

(thank you Susan for the beautiful wings…they fit perfectly with my new AVAM swan)

here are my latest art journal pages for two different monthly journal challenges Susi’s with the theme of “Crowns” and Dawn’s with the theme of “New” using colors that I don’t often go to…

my old friend (3) A

my encyclopedia pages (each measuring 4×6″/postcard size) began with some found poetry that eerily and unintentionally lined up with words showing thru my painted and collaged backgrounds on page 213 and 214…

my old friend A

did you pick a word to inspire you this year?

A BIG thank you once again to my sweet and talented friend Estivalia in Chile for creating the code for my Word of the Year to appear on my sidebar…she’s the best!!!

doodling about…

first I want to thank the always generous and kind Estivalia for coming to my rescue yet again…

she made it possible for my word of the year “Balance” to be on my sidebar AND she also got the Tea on Tuesday widget working for me…

thank you thank you sweet Estivalia!!!

lots is going on here in our Magpie’s Nest…

we are in the midst of clearing out …

always it seems…

but now more earnestly than ever…

we are also in the process of replacing some carpet that has long outlived its usefulness…

as you may know all of that is hard work so in the evenings I have been relaxing by doing a bit of doodling…

nice mindless escape…

I am a bit of a lazy doodler using my favorite ‘easy’ marks…

clearing out is a process much like doodling taking one step at a time…

2010 in Review Compiled by WordPress

the information below came to me from WordPress…

this is the first time I have received anything like this from them…although they do a great running stat page for WordPress bloggers on a daily basis…

the bit about the Louvre Museum under Crunchy Numbers is my favorite…

so in keeping with my word of the year “AUTHENTIC” … I thought I would share…not spending lots of time thinking should I or shouldn’t I…

WordPress made it easy peasy offering a link to click creating this blogblogblog post….their verbage is within quotes and in a lighter font below…

“The stats helper monkeys at WordPress.com mulled over how this blog did in 2010, and here’s a high level summary of its overall blog health:

Healthy blog!

The Louvre Museum has 8.5 million visitors per year. This blog was viewed about 130,000 times in 2010. If it were an exhibit at The Louvre Museum, it would take 6 days for that many people to see it.

In 2010, there were 282 new posts, growing the total archive of this blog to 1288 posts.

The busiest day of the year was August 3rd with 1,124 views. The most popular post that day was Zipper Roses.

Where did they come from?

The top referring sites in 2010 were blogger.com, ahappystamper.blogspot.com, Google Reader, aliceandcamilla.blogspot.com, and mail.yahoo.com.

Some visitors came searching, mostly for zentangle, zurab tsereteli, zentangles, frida kahlo, and zentangle ideas.

thank you WordPress for a really fun year…and to all that come to visit and spend some of your precious time…many many thanks…

in my view photos are a big part of the fun of blogging…

a bit of a visual record of this creative journey…

these two little samplers were made using a Photoshop Elements Mosaic feature…

below are a few of my observations on the

ATTRACTIONS in 2010

that WordPress reported on above…

1 Zipper Roses…I really like my metal zipper post here better

2 Bluebell Paradise…it was a Bluebell kind of April last year and this Bluebell post made the WordPress Freshly Pressed page in April = Wowee!

3 Inchie Ornament Tutorial …who knew so many people could have so much fun with little one inch cubes…thanks once again to Shelly Rae Wood for inspiring me and so many others!

4 Mr Zentangles…funny that this Zentangle/Doodle post is at the top out of almost eighteen on my Magpie’s Nest blog…certainly NOT the best representation of my doodling efforts

5 Christmas Postcards for You … wonder what made these so visited amongst the Freebies I have offered over the last three years?

WHERE DID THEY COME FROM? … Many Many Thanks to Angela’s Happy Stamper and Margaret’s Alice and Camilla for sending a good number of visitors my way…how nice is that!!!

Here’s to another year of having fun in the land of blog…with or without stats…as we like to say about birthdays “it’s only a number” 🙂

a bright new year… show me happy days

ready or not…here we are…twenty ten is history and 2011 is full of promise…possibility and mystery

*with thanks to Lennie for that wonderful weathered clockface*

… my word for last year was PLAY

this year I have chosen

AUTHENTIC

as my word …

here is the Merriam-Webster Definition which goes on and on … #5: is the definition that really speaks to me

1 obsolete : authoritative
2 a : worthy of acceptance or belief as conforming to or based on fact <paints an authentic picture of our society> b : conforming to an original so as to reproduce essential features <an authentic reproduction of a colonial farmhouse> c : made or done the same way as an original <authentic Mexican fare>
3: not false or imitation : real, actual <an authentic cockney accent>
4 a: of a church mode : ranging upward from the keynote — compare plagal 1 b of a cadence : progressing from the dominant chord to the tonic — compare plagal 2
5: true to one’s own personality, spirit, or character

…I still intend to Play…that is how creating always feels to me…a getting lost in the moment kind of release…my focus for this new year is to reach deeper and let more feelings flow into what I create…worrying less about how others might perceive it…I think I have been on this path…a new year is a chance to fine tune things…

I have started a January Visual Journal…6 x 9″…the December 2009 Art Journal I made was so satisfying…I missed doing that in 2010…time moves so quickly…
*photo taken on Labor Day 2010*

I am always captivated by the stonework on the US Botanic Garden building in Washington DC…

it is a most beautiful spot to visit any time of year…

I created a collage centered around a photograph… adding some pretty papers…a B-Line rubber stamp…a piece of cigar band and water soluble oil pastels…

Balance

The brilliant challenge over at Awfully Big Art Adventure is to alter a rock.  Now that is something I just happen to have plenty of.  This rock is from the Moorman River near Charlottesville, Virginia. The river bed was full of lovely flat rocks of all different sizes and colors and like seashells they look extra tempting when they are wet!

abaarock-bottom

After a coat of Lumiere paint, I used Matte Gel Medium to glue a couple of my favorite papers around the image of a garden ornament we have hanging out back.  The tiny seashells are recent acquisitions.  While vacuuming today I noticed a pearl bead on the carpet, luckily it was not sucked up.  After I had the shells glued on my rock, I knew the pearl would be the perfect finishing touch inside the jingle shell!

The word Balance really speaks to me…….it is something I continually strive for.

“Work, love and play are the great balance wheels of man’s being” ~Orison Swett Marden

And another quote; there are lots on balance in life:

“Women need real moments of solitude and self-reflection to balance out how much of ourselves we give away.” ~Barbara De Angelis
