Spring changes…

April is turning out to be a month of big changes for me and the month is still young…

a week or so ago I had my hair cut and donated fifteen inches to a good cause (I have donated hair in the past but this time around I learned how much it costs to make a human hair wig confirming that monetary donations are very much needed as well)…

for the first time in my life I have braces and what an adventure that is going to be for the next year or so…

late last year we had some work done to reduce the size of part of our herbaceous border getting rid of wild blackberry and honeysuckle vines to name just a few marauders (I Love them in a wild setting but it wasn’t good that they were choking out so many other plants)…

now we are watching to see what survived the clean out before we do any new planting…

I had fun recently altering vintage spools of silk thread that my always generous friend Carmen shared with our mixed media group using a bit of shredded map, wire, moss, rose ribbon trim and a shiny egg or two for the little chick to sit on and the little boy is from the top of a small valentine candy box that I altered years ago (I created the frame using distressed copper mesh and brads)…

the blue Muscari/Grape Hyacinths are definitely a favorite spring flower of mine ♥ they seem to pop up everywhere…

I am tagging along with everyone over at Elizabeth’s Altered Book Lover to celebrate T Stands for Tuesday and

wish you a happy day…

Dawn’s Journal Journey’s July

the theme this month over at Journal Journey’s is HATS

I decided to start altering this children’s board book…

Board Book before and aftereven with the dinosaur cover it immediately made me think of gothic arches which are always a favorite of mine…

peeled board book (1)

it took some patience using a damp rag  and lots of picking to peel the pages down to just cardboard with no glossy paper remaining…

peeled board book (2)

I began by gluing some of my gelli print papers for the background of my pages…

my long haired lady is from an old fashioned hair net package and the “hat” I made for her was fun to create…Patty Szymkowicz Truth 1 (1)

footnote: thanks to Karen of Karen’s Monday Musings for the name of my mystery stamps above … they are called “Trading Stamps“…

♥thank you to everyone for inspiring me in so many different ways♥

You’ll probably never know…

my art journal pages were inspired by a couple of images from a wonderful card and special paper swap from the lovely and talented Madeleine Schineis in The Netherlands

(with special thanks to LaWendula for the many swaps she continues to organize … I believe there is still time to sign up for the December “Yummy Papers” swap here)…

the girl with her long tresses caught in the train door really spoke to me as I have had long hair for much of my life…

the delicate bird image on the right hand page was just perfect too…

(here is some of what went into my pages: a chocolate paper, black and white rub ons, cotton gauze, music fabric tape, metal button, acrylic paint, white Signo gel pen, black marker and black  Stabilo Woody)

listen with your heART…

a few more pages in my How It Works” Encyclopedia art journal…

the image of the mechanical man on the right was the only thing on these paint scraped pages for the longest time…

the vintage lady popped up and my pages evolved from there… I stapled the gauzy piece of fabric on the left side…just because…

now for some colors that I do not often go to…

paint scraping pages way ahead of time gave me the chance to stretch out of my comfort zone a bit…

hair has played a fairly prominent role in my life off and on for many years …

on my wedding day it was my veil … long and down to my waist…

I got it all cut off for Locks of Love about eight years ago and kept it no longer than shoulder length for a good many years … ok this feels like TMI … guess I felt I wanted to explain about why all of the altered hair shots at the bottom of my journal pages LOL … enough said … it is getting long again … it can help keep me warm this winter…

wishing you a happy September Equinox however that fits into your neck of the woods
